To get into a group listed here, your postcount must meet the minimum. Note that Forum Games and RPG boards do not increase your postcount!!

As of now, there are no benefits associated with post-based usergroups.

Special Usergroups
These groups are special in that they are not assigned based on postcount, rather you may only be added to them by the Group Leader(s) or Admins. They are listed in order from highest ranking to lowest - if you are part of two groups, the highest-ranked shows in the profile (i.e. I am an Admin, a Glitch Scientist, and an Oldbie, but Admin outranks the other two so it's what's in my profile). These groups are divided into staff groups (those which carry actual positions of responsibility within the site) and honor groups (those which are basically just badges recognition and don't carry actual power). All admin groups, mod groups, and the Glitch Scientist group are staff, and all other groups but Crash and Burn, Burninated, Banned, and Test are honor groups.

Most members of these groups are now voted into special groups by honor members and staff in the Exclusive Board; this is a privilege reserved for users of the Exclusive Board. The exceptions to this rule are Admins, Valued Contributors, and Oldbies; Admins are only hand-picked by a Head Admin (Abwayax or Newo), Valued Contributors are promoted by Admins who recognize their contributions to the site, and Oldbies are promoted by Abwayax when he recognizes them from Prof. Glitch's Lab.

Crash and Burn ROM Hacking (CBRH) is included among the list but is not ranked among the other groups; any member in CBRH can choose to display themselves as a member of the CBRH group or their normal group. CBRH is not an honor group or an official staff group of GCL; it is an independent ROM hacking group.

Glitch Scientist is ranked equal to Global Moderator (hence the three-stripe insignia), however, Global Moderator takes precedence when a user is a member of both groups (this is in fact the case with all of our current global mods). Honor groups are ranked in the order listed despite the fact that their insignia all have one stripe.


Admins: The people in charge. They make the rules. They have full access to all the forum's features. They are also the ones in charge of the website. The Head Admin(s) are the leaders of this group and the ultimate authorities on everything; a Head Admin may overturn a decision made by another Admin and promote new Admins.

Lieutenant Admins (formerly Staff Admins): Users who are admins only of the forum, not the site. Administrative decisions made by Lt. Admins may be overturned by an Admin.

Global Moderators: The enforcers of the rules. Their job is to make sure the rules are followed, and take care of threads that stray off topic or problematic members. They can Sticky and Lock threads, as well as Edit or Delete posts. Moderator Leaders are the leaders of the Global Mod group. They can overturn any decision made by a local or global moderator, as well as promote and demote global mods.

Glitch Scientists: Non-admin staff of the Website. They have Moderator access over a significant portion of the forums. In addition, they can update the website.

Local Moderators: They are moderators over one or more selected boards. Their authority extends only to these boards.

Distinguished Members: Members who have made significant contributions to Glitchology in general, or know lots about glitches. This group, like Valued Contributor, has no extra power (apart from the ability to change their Custom User Title), and serves practically as a badge of sorts.


Valued Contributors: Members who have made significant contributions to the site, but are not staff. This group has no extra power (apart from the ability to change their Custom User Title), and serves practically as a badge of sorts.


Decamark Researchers: These members are the people helping Newo with the task of creating a list of ?????????? variants. They are like valued contributors except they contribute to a certain task more than the entire site. They are not official forum staff, although they have a high chance of becoming staff should the need for staff arise.


Oldbies: Members who were part of the old Professor Glitch's Laboratory forums. The cutoff for Oldbie status is November 2004. They have the same permissions as Valued Contributors and Distinguished Members. The Oldbie badge goes with this group. Note that if you part of a group that outranks Oldbie (Distinguished Member and Valued Contributor both outrank it, as well as forum staff positions) you might not have the oldbie group, however you will still carry the badge.


Members+: An "elite member" type usergroup. Originally, it was planned to be a usergroup you get into by passing a test. However, the test was never completed. Typically Members+ are former staff, members hand-picked by an Admin, or members voted into the group by the other Members+.

Crash and Burn
The GCL ROM hacking team. PM Wack0 or Abwayax if you are interested in joining.

Test
An account that allows admins to test site stuff through the "eyes" of other types of user groups. It also allows admins to test other admin/mod features on a "dummy".

Burninated
Burninated is a "semi-banned" rank that restricts some powers--specifically, the ability to post new topics, post attachments, use remotely stored avatars, vote in polls, or change people's Glitch Power. Users can receive it as a punisment for a minor offense. It typically lasts 2 days, and is then removed.

Banned
All chances have been lost. You are banned. NOTE: Banned users will never be unbanned.

The stars increase by one each time you attain a new rank. It starts out at zero ('M), then increases to one (MissingNo), two (A), etc...

Some names in the Online lists are brown, but they aren't burninated. And I see a black one, but it's normal too.

The brown is really a dark red color. I suppose I forgot to mention this, but name colors get progressively redder as they go up in post rank. So, for example, a pPkMnp' ' is redder than a .4. It was my idea.

Will anyone reach 3TrainerPoke?
It is a bit high and people who post that much and have enough money to buy post increasing items a lot of times have special usergroups anyway so that amount of posts don't turn the poster into 3TrainerPoke as they are Administators ect..

If you become a 3TrainerPoke I would be very inpressed (and that is without hacking).

I could put Newo but that would be a lie as I may never get that red!
