A minor nitpick on the GlitchDex
« on: September 06, 2006, 04:12:40 PM »
From the 3TrainerPok? page:

Quote
3TrainerPok? is the only known #176 variant glitch in the Yellow Versions. It cannot be encountered via the Ditto Trick - you must bring in a 'M from Red/Blue version.

It actually can be encountered by the Ditto Trick using a special of 256.  In general, the specials work mod 256, so a special of 1 is equivalent to a special of 257 and a special of 513, and so on.

Thus, 3TrainerPok? is obtainable by the Ditto Trick.

EDIT:  By the way, I saw the new glitches from Melchior III in the GlitchDex.  Very nicely done.  I'll go ahead and update the Encounter flags for the new glitches in Yellow, even though it probably will be unable to be used.

I'm pretty sure I tested using a Special of 256 with the Ditto Trick. From what I remember, it didn't work. I can try it again though. Have you actually tried?
Any time it says I'm using "Safari", I'm actually using my phone. Safari does not run on GNU/Linux and I do not use Safari.

I've tried using 256 too, on my Red Version. From what I remember, nothing happened. I didn't encounter any Pok?mon; I just closed out of the menu and nothing happened.
First to discover and name the following glitches:
* Super Glitch
* ZZAZZ Glitch
* Q Glitch
* Level-100+ Glitch Evolutions and Moves

I haven't tried it myself, but I have some links:

From http://db.gamefaqs.com/portable/gameboy/file/pokemon_yellow_glitch.txt (I believe you have to type the link in the address bar):

Quote
If a POKEMON's SPECIAL goes over 255, the list above repeats itself
(i.e. a SPECIAL of 256 generates the same POKEMON as a SPECIAL of 0,
a SPECIAL of 257 generates the same POKEMON as a SPECIAL of 1,
a SPECIAL of 258 generates the same POKEMON as a SPECIAL of 2 etc.).
Also, some glitch-POKEMON increase the number of captured POKEMON by 1.

And from http://tbp.berkeley.edu/~jdonald/pokemon/pokemon_mew_glitch.txt

Quote
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~ 4) Ditto Glitch Obtainable ~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Get a Pokemon with a Special Power of this (or any of these +256)
and start the glitch, battle a trainer, then a ditto, and make sure Ditto
transforms into the Pokemon with the special. Fly to Lavender and get the Pokemon!
From http://pokedex.kary.ca/catchmew2.shtml (which also gives an ROM-based description of exactly what happens)
Quote
Note that since only the least significant of the two Special bytes is used for this, you can also add 256 to the values listed above and use that Special to get the same Pok?mon.  This is important because there are a few Pok?mon, such as Kangaskhan, whose identifying value is lower than the minimum Special that any Pok?mon can have.  In Kangaskhan's case, you can find her by using a Special of 258 (2 + 256).
Have I tested it on yellow?  No (I don't own yellow, and I'm not about to use a ROM).  But I think I have a theory:
When you return to the Long-Ranged Trainer, the game perhaps sees the lower byte is zero and interprets it as "no battle" rather than 'M/3TrainerPok?.  But the preponderence of the evidence suggests that it usually is okay to use a special mod 256.
In summary, the results suggest that 'M cannot be reached by the Ditto Trick.  However, it can still be reached by the Old Man Trick, which uses the land encounter list.  Therefore, there must be a difference between the method of calling via land encounter and calling via ditto trick.
Conclusions:
1.  Yes, you can obtain Rhydon, Kangaskhan, NidoranM, and Clefairy through Ditto Trick (not that it matters).
2.  The game acts differently when 'M is called through ditto trick and old man trick.
3.  I need to stop being stingy and actually buy yellow.
Admins, please go ahead and move this (if necessary).
You could use zD in your name as it gets wild Mewtwos Lv185 (I think) which would have pretty high special.
It is the D that is Mewtwo which has always had high special. Then use Rare candies to get chosen special.
Name can be ?zD???? or ???zD?? or ?????zD that is why mine is [Pk]zDzZzY
And if you don't have that as a name, you can Q glitch to make a level 100+ Mewtwo.  Although I am highly skeptical that a special of 512 would work any differently from a special of 256 or (for that matter) a (Sharked) special of 0.
Not really. Because Mewtwo doesn't evolve, you wouldn't be able to get a real Lv. 100+ Mewtwo this way, only a hybrid of something else with Mewtwo. And it would have the something else's stats.
The stats are the important thing, not the fact that it is a Mewtwo.  To obtain a 512 special, we need to solve the equation:
512 = int[(((Base stat) * 2 + (DV) * 2 + StatExp) * Level) / 100] + 5
507 = int[(((Base stat) * 2 + (DV) * 2 + StatExp) * Level) / 100]
Since giving any Stat Experience resets the level to 100, we take StatExp = 0, leaving
507 = int[(((Base stat) * 2 + (DV) * 2) * Level) / 100]
Multiplying by 100 gives us
50700 <= (Base stat * 2 + DV * 2) * Level <= 50799
If we take level to be the maximum 255, we have
50700 <= ((Base stat) * 2 + (DV) * 2) * 255
50700 <= 510 * (Base stat + DV)
100 <= Base stat + DV
This means any base stat of at least 100 can produce a 512 or more special every time, but a species with a base stat of at least 85 could produce such a special if its special DV is high enough.  So, you can Q-glitch an Vulpix to over level 100, then evolve to Ninetales (base special 100), and rare candy up, hoping not to skip 512 special.  Also, it is to be noted that the (Base stat + DV) was intentionally chosen to be as low as possible while still reaching 512, lest the 512 special be skipped.
In particular, if the special DV is 1, 2, 4, 7, 8, or 9, a 512 special can be reached, otherwise it cannot.  But since these are being caught over level 100, it is possible to determine DV's with certainty.  Furthermore, since it is possible to obtain Stat Exp. without battling (e.g. using vitamins), it may be possible to get a 512 special for every DV.  In fact, the following combinations allow 512 special:
DV 0:  L233 + 2 vitamins
DV 1:  L251
DV 2:  L249
DV 3:  L233 + 1 vitamin
DV 4:  L244
DV 5:  L216 + 4 vitamins
DV 6:  L217 + 3 vitamins
DV 7:  L237
DV 8:  L235
DV 9:  L233
DV 10:  L207 + 4 vitamins
DV 11:  L217 + 1 vitamin
DV 12:  L215 + 1 vitamin
DV 13:  L208 + 2 vitamins
DV 14:  L203 + 3 vitamins
DV 15:  L199 + 4 vitamins
So it is possible to obtain 512 special with that method (if I did the math correctly).
First, I don't think that this will produce 3TrainerPok?, given the fact that a special of 256 did not trigger it.
Second, that was the way to get a special of 512 without guess-and-check.  If you really wanted to, you could take the 3/8 chance that you will hit 512 on the nose.  So, if you didn't care about how many pok?mon you needed, you could just catch, glitch, and level up until you hit 512 on the nose.
