Anyone here frequent Pokemon Showdown? I'm starting to get back into it as Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon lurk on the horizon.

I remember Paco! I haven't seen him in forever, along with a bunch of old members. Led Zeppelin, Axaj, FiveX, ACE91, Chaos, Yami Mutou, the list goes on...

I actually think this place is more on an upswing lately. More users and more posts than in years past. Sure, it's not what it was during the peak years of 2007-2009, but it's a lot more active than it was in 2012-2013.

I do miss the peak activity though.

Debate Wars / Re: Riots
« on: September 05, 2017, 01:46:13 pm »
Protesting is one thing. Rioting is another.
I think the only time a riot was justified was in Charlottesville. When Neo-Nazis and white supremacists are demonstrating like that, I feel as if riots and violence to stop them is justified. Yes, everyone is entitled to their own free-speech and the right to demonstrate, but, when those viewpoints are hateful, discriminatory, and as toxic as a Nazi ideology is, then yes, "punching a Nazi" is justified.

However, that's the only case where rioting is justified. Looting stores, attacking police, and punching those who disagree with you are no ways to get a point across and affect how your viewpoint is perceived. Attacking people simply because they do not agree with a viewpoint you've presented merely harms the validity of your own argument. While they may be rioting for a good cause, as racism and race inequality is prevalent even in today's society, there are tons of better ways to get that argument across rather than rioting. Peaceful protests, kneeling for the anthem (shoutouts to Colin Kaepernick), and talking with government officials have a much better chance of getting things done than violent rioting does. When options like this exist, rioting cannot be justified.

Well, the only thing we know so far about the new games is that there'll be a new Lycanroc form (Dusk Form) in them, which basically just looks like a combination of Night Form and Day Form.

They're really revealing a lot less information about these games than they did Sun and Moon. Not sure how much I like that strategy.

I'm kind of using this as a general Pokemon update thread now, but...

This video was just posted to the Pokemon JP YouTube channel earlier today. I have no idea what it's getting at or what the entire space theme means, but I'd assume it has something to do with UltraSun and UltraMoon.

Btw, they kinda lied. As there was no information on USUM at E3...
And they told us that there will be information on it at E3...
Yeah, that's the one game at E3 that I was really looking forward to seeing more from. Would have loved to see some gameplay videos / some highlights of what's different this time around, but oh well.

At least we have CoroCoro leaks... eventually.

Since it was stated to be a main-series game, my thoughts are that it'll either be Gen VIII, or Diamond/Pearl remakes. Probably the latter, since it would be too soon after UltraSun/UltraMoon in my opinion.
Personally, I'd doubt it. Just because soon after UltraSun/UltraMoon doesn't mean that that'll stop Game Freak from releasing an entirely new generation. Just look at Black 2/White 2 and X/Y. Black 2/White 2 were released when the 3DS already came out, and, not long after their release, X and Y were announced.

Unrelated to the Direct, but a main-series Pokemon game for the Switch was just announced this morning. Will come out sometime next year (I think).

This is probably Gen 8, but this is definitely hype.

This thread has been around for a while now and I haven't piped in, so, welcome back! I'm not sure if I remember you -- did you used to go by any other usernames? I've been here a long time so we were probably here at the same time at one point.

Did Pokebank allow Mew Glitch Mews to pass through to the Gen 7 games? If Mews couldn't pass through, I wouldn't imagine Coin Case Celebis could either. Though, getting a Celebi through the Coin Case is much less common knowledge than the Mew Glitch was.

Also, on the press site, they said that it would be coming out for the switch with a "TBA" date
I saw that too, though that was pretty quickly taken down so it could just be a mistake. I don't think they'll release a main-series game on a new console just yet; they'll probably wait until the next generation comes around to do so. EDIT: It was a mistake.

I'm hoping USM is just more than an alternate storyline. I'd love to see a larger post-game (after the Ultra Beast sidequest there wasn't a ton to do), and possibly see some incorporation with Kanto. There were some pretty heavy allusions to Kanto in the first games, so I'm hoping we actually get to visit the region this game.

Disappeared briefly. Finals and school kept me occupied.

In other news, during my time away, I ran my first major Smash 4 tournament. We pulled 700+ concurrent viewers on Twitch for Grand Finals and drew 145 unique entrants. Highlights, if any of you are interested in Smash 4, can be found on the Satellite Smash YouTube channel (I'm not gonna link it, just type it in on YouTube, it doesn't take that long). I'm the guy in the jersey.

I'll be checking in on this place more frequently now that school's just about done.
