The rules are actually out of date, there is a way to apply for a moderator position
might I ask who goes over the mod requests?
They are reviewed in the exclusive board, however I will state that personally I tend to only consider Members+ for mod positions. Since we introduced that group the mods we appointed since then have all been from that user group.
Ah. Lets say you personally want to demote a mod, do you go right to the staff or you just do it?

I do demotions myself, however most of said demotions are due to inactivity and are not serious.

For example I just recently moved Locke Yggdrasill out of the admin group because he has been inactive in three months. He hasn't really done anything wrong, and if he gets active again he'll most certainly get the position back.

Ah okay,
but lets say a mod or someone was abusing their position,
would it be a warning then demotion?

*not a bump*

With all the talk going on of a new ranking system, why not go back to this one?

Why not?

e: Not the postcount groups, but the usergroups (Admin, Mod, CBRH, etc.)

Because it's the old system and thing's are outdated in it, ie. Global Mod, Glitch Scientist, Lt. Admin, etc.

Regarding usergroups (and the badges associated with them):

Since I'm guessing that no one really uses the badges anymore, I thought I'd take this opportunity to offer to redo the badges to suit the current ranking system. Example:

I mostly used the Head Admin badge as a base, but whipped this up in less than five minutes. I can do the same with the other badges and bring them "up to code", so to speak.

*Bump* (This is a sticky right, so I don't get in trouble? :V) Seeing how it's now 2013 the user groups that were in the OP are definitely gone, perhaps you could add the new groups? I'm very confused about some of them. :V I've been wondering what exactly is the difference between a Distinguished member and Valued Contributor, as they both seem to be very similar. Perhaps you could create a usergroup that sort of merges the two together as they seem similar? Or if they are very different could you perhaps add a description to each group? I remember someone asking about this 2 years ago but I was sort of confused on the subject and seeing how this is the usergroup thread I decided to post this here. :V The way I see it, is Distinguished Member sort of like Tech Member (wiki page: http://info.sonicretro.org/Tech_Member) over at Sonic Retro and Valued Contributor like Wiki Sysop at Sonic Retro? (Yeah I compare you guys to Retro, mainly because of the vast knowledge many members here have about how the gen 1 and 2 games work plus this is my second favorite forum next to Retro. :V)

I second an update of the user groups since a lot of people haven't been back since the beta launched.
Edit: I always saw Valued Contributor as someone who helped contribute information for pages/topics on GCLF. Distinguished is just... a distinguished. I never understood the point of member+ either.
Edit 2: Holy s**t, reading that first post brings me back... I feel old.

Valued Contributor is for those that have made many contributions for the site, while Distinguished Member is for those that made distiguished or groundbreaking discoveries (i.e. Paco81 and the Egg Glitch in G/S/C).

I'm going to be making this topic defunct soon in order to remake it with updated information.
