Can a 3DS handle more hats than a DS(i)? (SM64DS)

Well, just of boredom I decided to see if a 3DS can go further than a DS on the superior hat duplication in Super Mario 64 DS. The DS got 32 hats and crashed when you kill the snowman to release them, while a 3DS got to 64 hats, with major graphical glitches starting at 32 hats. The game froze so hard, that the debug mode's time counter was cycling between around 18m 32s 500 and 18m 32s 670, then looping.
Also, why is even "Administr" on the debug menu, this ain't Windows goddamn it. And why does it think it's 13 January 2005? Is that when my copy was made?
Anyway, the game just ran out of RAM probably.
Can anyone test the DSi? I don't have one so...
So, what is the answer? Yes, a 3DS can handle more hats than a DS.

EDIT:Soft-resetting freezes everything (R.I.P the timer).

Did you try an a new3DS ? Maybe - but I dn't think so - it might handle more hats.

Welp, since we are going from powers of two to powers of two, it has, I think, almost 0 chance to handle 128 hats.
But it just might, although I highly doubt it.

DSi (XL at least) gets 128 on an R4i Dual Core from "r4isdhc.com", as it's got an extra 16MB of RAM and 2 extra processors (around the speed of a Rubber Ducky each, so... bonus?)

I was using a physical cartridge though.
true... but meh...
Turning off the extra resources results in 46 or so hats, so there you go.
Legit for DSi, it's 46.
