Call glitch?
« on: December 11, 2016, 08:43:25 am »
Hello guys,

A while back, I've been told that in Cristal only, if you call a friend then ask your Mom to change the hour, there are good chances that someone will randomly call you immediately.

Could this be a glitch in subroutines or somewhat?

Thanks!

Relevant video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oEREhdoJF-4

Simply put, a random trainer has a 50% chance to call you after a time interval that starts at 20 minutes and decrements each time that a trainer fails to call you after each of those intervals (goes back to 20 mins after a call). Changing the time one hour forward, is enough to ensure that 20 minutes have passed since the last trainer call check, so you get an immediate 50% chance for a call after you do it. If you change it one hour backwards instead, the time difference as interpreted by the game will just underflow into several days.

Thanks for that very interesting piece of information! That explains everything. I guess Game Freak could have done something against this... So it can be called a glitch without being really one. They probably knew it was happening, but they didn't really care.

There is no DST in Japan so it wouldn't be a concern until localization.
