Spiky Shield Sky Drop glitch
« on: February 27, 2017, 08:41:57 am »
This glitch was discovered by accident at a Premiere Challenge hosted by OriginGamma.

If a Pokémon uses Sky Drop on a target that used Spiky Shield, but faints due to Spiky Shield, the user of Sky Drop will have its HP reach 0 but remain on the field. It cannot use moves (creating a dead slot), but it also is considered conscious (making it impossible to move).

Would be interesting to see what happens if both sides only have a Pokémon with 0 HP on their field at the same time...

Source and video

Also, it's worth noting this is the third Sky Drop glitch discovered in Sun and Moon. There's the Red Card Mimikyu bug mentioned in this thread; and there's the this bug mentioned on GameFAQs that causes the target of Sky Drop to become invisible if the user of Sky Drop faints due to Rocky Helmet/Rough Skin.

I checked both the Spiky Shield Sky Drop glitch and the Rocky Helmet/Rough Skin Sky Drop glitch in Gen 6, and neither occurs.

Cool glitch SnorlaxMonster. I should be able to make a video about this. Before I do, do you know in advance what happens when the battle ends with the Sky Drop user as the only Pokémon left?
Hello. I actually identify as gender questioning, but nowadays feel more firmly that I identify as female. My sex is male but I like to express myself as female.

Thank you TMTRAINER for my avatar and Aeriixion for the cute sprite! :) Roelof also made different variations of the sprite (which I animated).

It's important to always follow your heart, so unless you feel perfectly happy about it don't just follow something because it is popular, fits a style or is conventional. Sometimes you may reach a point you're not sure who you are, but as things settle I'm convinced things do work out in time.

This is interesting. So this Pokémon can't move and you can't kill it, right? You basically can't use this slot anymore so you have to finish the battle with 1 Pokémon instead of 2. I'm very interested in what happens in a single battle. If the game just stuck until the opponent kills itself with struggle?

To kill itself, the opponent could Selfdestruct. If type effectiveness makes it deal 0 damage to the opponent we can achieve the desired effect.

Also, are items usable on the slot ?

From what I've read, it's impossible to lose if you have an "undead" Pokémon due to this glitch.

So the only ways out are either the opponent dying from Struggle or ragequitting ?

I guess the "only" solution would be to ban Spiky Shield from online battles.
Or just to fix the glitch, GAME FREAK ?!!???!!!

Yes, and it will probably be patched anyway.

But we need to test this in french games, it's an awesome glitch!

Okay, so it might be possible to get your whole party fainted for the first time since gen 4 with this.

Get a smeargle with spiky shield and memento and your sky drop pokemon with low hp.
Fight a wild smeargle and use spiky shield so it gets sketched. Then use memento to kill our own smeargle.
Then send in the sky drop pokemon and use sky drop and have it protected with spiky shield.
Then run? or wait for smeargle to struggle itself to death.

If running and struggle don't work you could use a ditto and have it transform your smeargle and just hope it uses the right moves and kills itself with memento.
