Post by: Photon-Phoenix on August 07, 2011, 10:08:51 pm
This topic is to be used during the semi-private beta for a list of new bugs and bugs to be squashed/have been squashed.  Please report any bugs you find here.

This is a developing list of bugs that includes theme issues.

  • Avatars do not show completely (i.e. Yuzihax's DiscoBrock) on forum posts, although they do in profile.

Update, even though Yuzihax's avatar now shows on forum posts, to clarify other profiles are still affected by the problem, some in their profile page as well e.g. Tombstoner's (I'm assuming you didn't remove your avatar, so if you're reading this please correct me if I'm wrong!).

Idk if this is wrong or isn't, but when I post, I'm automatically redirected to the board while I should stay in the thread where I posted.

That's how SMF works, there might be a setting in your profile you need to change.

Yeah, there is.  Go to profile > change settings > look and layout then check the box that says "return to topic after posting by default."

All old avatars that were uploaded aren't showing up for some reason.  Re-uploading fixes this but not for members who no longer go here.  It's some kind of directory bug I'm guessing. For clairification, the bug I was addressing is that large avatars don't have a scrollbar in posts, and instead get cut off like Yuzi's.

I will be upgrading the forum to 2.0 Final sometime this week (its currently still on RC5). Until then I won't be doing bugfixes that require code mods (the buddy list issue looks like one of these). After the upgrade we'll see how many bugs have been fixed.

Hmm... AM/PM don't seem to be showing up.

The forum was upgraded. I'll look into that.

This error report may help:

8: Undefined index: time_am

8: Undefined index: time_pm

edit: Seems none of the reported bugs were fixed by the upgrade, sadly.

The forum names are extremely hard to read before registration, white on mottled light gray/white is not the best choice. http://i.imgur.com/VLmgC.png

Registration requires no less than five unique questions which almost no one will know without extensive searching (took me quite a while to find, and I know my way around the site roughly, still had to guess one of them), along with a capacha. This is waaaay over the top anti-spambot protection and will prevent almost all casual users from registering. Just the capacha is plenty to stop almost all spambots, maybe keep one much easier unique question if you're really paranoid about spambots. http://i.imgur.com/WHdiS.png

Also, not quite as direct a problem, but having a way to dismiss the large bold paragraph on the forum index about forum rules once you have read them would be really nice. It could be implemented as a dismissable announcement rather than as a permanent redirect forum, making the forum index much less clogged up. Similarly, though it takes up much less space, the link to the main site in the forum index could be removed in favor of making the top-right logo a link to the main page, as most sites do.

Something's wrong with your browser, that text is actually dark grey.  Try forcing a cache refresh (shift+refresh) or updating.

(See attachment)

The number of questions that need answered has been reduced 2 and the questions given will randomize.

Thank you for your input! :)

It's just that color for people who have not registered, most likely due to them not being able to post/there being no new posts. When I'm logged in I have the same as you, but before the very light/hard to read color is used.

Much better, though still maybe a little more than needed in my opinion. It's not like a spambot will get through a single unique question. or even a capatcha most likely.

No prob. Will post more as I find it :)

Actually, the questions were put up due to mass spambot accounts getting through the high-end (not extreme) captcha.

Those category names should not be white. I will look into that.

Good idea about the rules reminder text by the way.

Bad encoding in old posts. Unicode characters converted to question marks. Example. (http://forums.glitchcity.info/index.php/topic,5055.msg129397.html#msg129397)

The redirect "topic" in the forums directs back to the old GCL URL and brings up a maintenance message.

I just noticed a bug. On the forums, in the toolbar on the left, the first block of links is labelled as "ItemDex" for some reason?
Title: Re: Forum Bug List and Reports
Post by: Abwayax on November 19, 2011, 12:32:05 am
fixed. that sort of issue's happened quite a few times. it has to deal with character encodings.

basically what the forum's doing is grabbing MediaWiki:Sidebar and parsing it out. the syntax of this page is simple enough, but sometimes a UTF-8 byte order mark is added, which throws off the parser.

Malacoda's messing with the function of the list tags, ignore the pokeballs.

So I dunno if this is a bug or a design flaw that's always been there and I never noticed, but the layout doesn't take nicely to long posts with no line breaks. Just take a look at the press Ctrl+V and post thread. Unless you're fatally allergic to stretched screens, because then you would die. Most of those stretchy posts are my fault, but anyway.

I've played around a bit with Chrome's element inspector thingy, and it's easily fixable by adding a
Code: [Select]
.inner {
word-break: break-word;
}
CSS rule. Though I can't be bothered to test this in any other browser (it allegedly should work in every browser not named Opera, even IE6), and I don't know how possible it is or isn't to add new CSS tweaks to SMF.

This is an old post, but list behaviour has been bugging me:

1, numeric lists don't have numbers.
Typing this:
Code: [Select]
[li]This should be 1[/li]
[li]This should be 2[/li]
[li]This should be 3[/li]
Gives this:

2, the Pokeballs on lists are aligned with the middle.
Typing this:
Code: [Select]
[li]I'm a single item.[/li]
[li]I'm another list item.[/li]
[li]The following will be a sublist, or indented bullet points.[/li]
[li]
[li]Item 1[/li]
[li]Item 2[/li]
[/li]
[li]And this is the end of that list.[/li]
[li]And here is a list item with many new lines:
BLA
BLA
BLA
BLA[/li]
Gives this:

I'm pretty sure the same applies to the wiki.  It's been confusing me greatly.

More things that can be fixed by quick modifying CSS (I should probably look into Stylebot or whatever it's called unless there's some other way for me to touch things I shouldn't):

The first is because of line 4427 in index.css?rc5 (right near the bottom) causing the padding to overlap where the numbers should go, if you change it to 0 or remove the line entirely you can see the numbers to the left of the Pokéballs though it is indented and maybe that's a bad thing though I don't think so.

The second is on line 4433 of the same file can be changed from where it says
Code: [Select]
left center; to
Code: [Select]
left top; or what have you if it is a problem.

Though the issues you mention are in theory subjective and whoever put the CSS rules in place in the first place might disagree with you, I dunno.

Above the forum banner & "Hello SCf3, Show unread posts since last visit" there's this huge paragraph of code and it's making the font bigger on the forums. Not sure what it is, but figured I'd bring it to someone's attention.

I get camper's version (just two notices), and like what scf3 says, the font size is made bigger. Preview works for me, though.

Did you mean the "the message body was left empty." message when you try to preview a blank page, camper?

I'll email Abwayax about these problems.

I got Torchickens's email and looked into the problem. It looks like the server ran out of memory and the OS killed some processes in order to reclaim it, including the memcached service, which provides caching to several web applications on this server (notably GCLF and Infinitypedia). I have a good hunch about what might have caused it to happen, but I'll look into it later.

GCL just redirected me to the register page with a blank form and without any messages that I answered the wrong answer or another thing.

One of my YouTube video viewers is having trouble registering here. Going to see if I can make a new account.

Edit: I was able to make one. Things that might matter:

1) Whether you entered an email address (I entered one).
2) Whether your authentication method is password or OpenID (mine was password).
3) If you really entered the same password twice/the right captcha answer/the right glitch questions (I did).

On a somewhat-related subject, I remember that one of the questions about glitches linked to a non-existent page.  It had a parenthesis at the end, if I remember correct.  I can't remember the details.

The right parenthesis isn't part of the URL so it links to a non-existent page. I have no idea how to fix that but if someone can its that one.

edit: oh hey i did it. how about that.

I need to redo the bot captcha, but I can't touch SMF plugins until malacoda gets done with the maintenance (which will be 25 years from now :P)

I don't know if this is on my side or if this is server-side, but whenever I try to make a post on the forum, the posting always takes quite a long time to actually post.
Meaning, if I hit post after making a reply, no matter how short the reply is, I always have to end up waiting 2-3 minutes for the reply to go through. Does this happen with anyone else?

Actually, opening the index in another tab after hitting the post button shows the post goes through in the normal amount of time and it just takes the post page a really long time to refresh or whatever it does when you post.

At least it does for me, anyway, and I have no idea why.

e: this was actually all covered on the previous page of this topic, or at least the bug was already reported.

This happens to me all the time as well, and I know damn well it's not my internet connection being slow. I'll try posting this as a non-quick reply to see if it's not that.

EDIT: Still takes a while.

It sometimes happens to me.  It definitely is the refreshing that takes time though.  It fully posts but doesn't refresh.

There doesn't appear to be a way to search the wiki for pages?

There's one that searches the forums and I THINK the one near the bottom of the screen might hypothetically be for that purpose but it doesn't seem to work no matter what I use it for.

Yeah, that really needs to be fixed. The button doesn't work, but I don't know if there's a way to search the wiki with a custom URL. Even if there is, that would be an un-ideal way of searching. You can do a Google search for 'site:glitchcity.info/wiki/:(your query)', but I don't know how often Google updates our pages.

Also, you can always go on Special:AllPages (http://glitchcity.info/wiki/index.php/Special:AllPages), but it's harder to find something that way.

There's one that searches the forums and I THINK the one near the bottom of the screen might hypothetically be for that purpose but it doesn't seem to work no matter what I use it for.

It works for me with a query at least two characters long.

Does the other search button work?

I just noticed that the Microsoft account code here is very outdated since it still refers to when the services were branded under "The Microsoft Network" (MSN) moniker.

Clicking on a user's "MSN Messenger" link leads to https://members.msn.com/pagenotfounderror.aspx which itself redirects to the equivalent error page on OneDrive. I don't know what the modern equivalent to this old URL is but perhaps this should be replaced with code for Skype usernames and with support for both old Skype accounts and Microsoft accounts (in which Skype usernames are internally generated as live:<username from the Microsoft account's e-mail address>)?

I wouldn't recommend posting your skype username publicly on the internet.

Neither do I nor would I do it. But the current implementation on GCLF is outdated and broken so I suggested replacing it with Skype. Either that or it's removed for good.

A minor note. I signed up for email notifications, but they get sent to spam in gmail. The reason given is that apparently they violate some kind of Google guideline? It links to this (https://support.google.com/mail/answer/81126?hl=en-GB#authentication).

My thoughts on this are basically "f**k off Google", so I made a never spam filter. Still, this is apparently something inherent to the emails themselves that's probably getting triggered for all gmail users.

I've noticed that the youtube tags don't work properly, and you can't seem to embed a youtube video in posts anymore. Likewise, all the previous embedded videos don't work at all anymore and just show up as non clickable images. I made a search for Youtube but nothing seemed to pop up so forgive me if this has been brought up before. :P Edit on another note, I notice if you try to click account settings under the profile tab you get a 500 error stating the page isn't working. Just thought I'd bring that up as well.

That should work, at least it does for mobile chrome.

Hit shift+refresh and try it.

If not, is JavaScript disabled and what browser are you using?

Go here (http://www.glitchcity.info/forum) and take a careful look at the URL. I think it's throwing a 500 Internal while trying to throw a 404 Not Found.

This is a developing list of bugs that includes theme issues.

  • The Administration Panel Header Text is Yellow. fixed 8/7/2011
  • When editing buddies, the following error occurs:
Wrong value type sent to the database. Array of integers expected. (buddy_list)

  • The moderator notes has a scrollbar from the table cell not being big enough fixed 9/24/2011 - malacoda

  • The Wiki Sidebar has a blank toolbox placed in the wrong area and has two null tables (Search and Languages) fixed 9/24/2011 - malacoda
  • Avatars do not show completely (i.e. Yuzihax's DiscoBrock) on forum posts, although they do in profile. fixed 9/24/2011 - malacoda
  • At the bottom of the forum list, above the "Info Center", the legend for the board icons has wrong images for "No New Posts" and "Redirect Board". fixed 9/24/2011 - malacoda
  • Creating a board spits out this database error:
    Database Error
    Field 'redirect_target' doesn't have a default value
    File: /var/www/glitchcity.info/forums/Sources/Subs-Boards.php
    Line: 787
    fixed 8/15/2011 - malacoda
  • Posted links in dark windows such as this one are harder to see. http://something.com 9/24/2011 - malacoda. NB. I added an underline to all links in posts, because I'm afraid this darker link might be harder to tell from normal text
  • AM/PM doesn't show up next to 12hour time stamps fixed 9/24/2011 - malacoda
  • The Board category text shows up white for guests. fixed 9/24/2011 - malacoda

Did the upgrade break avatar uploading or were the size limits intentionally changed?

Quote from: GCLF
The following errors occurred when trying to save your profile:

The avatar you have selected is either too large or not an avatar.

Hmmm, my avatar is fine, maybe the size limit changed? (The file size one)
Try changing your avatar to something else.

The avatar size limit seems to be 200 x 200, but I had to dig an old topic via Google Search (and it wasn't obvious), but could you put it on the Forum Profile modification page, please ? Thank you.

The avatar size limit seems to be 200 x 200

Thanks for the tip! :) The limit only applies to the width, however. So you can have an image taller than 200 px but not wider than 200 px.

Yeah, it seems that the page body's font-size property being set to 78% is what crops your 200px-width avatar. It looks like it might be forcing a maximum visible avatar width of ~175px on forum postings (although it looks more like 174px).

Setting max-width: 100% as a CSS declaration for the "avatar" class fixes the issue, but at the cost of quality of the original >174px image.

That still cropped my avatar :/

Check your profile page or open the image URL directly to see it completely. Like Cryo said, the CSS used on threads is what causes the right side of large enough images to be hidden. Although we use the GCLF theme here, it also happens on the default SMF theme if you switch to it.

Yeah, I know only my avatar's displayed portion has changed, but the upload limit should then be updated to match the max display limit. I think.

"Latest post" in board doesn't account for posts in Child Boards.
Currently only applies to Gen I Glitch board & ACE discussion board.
Might be intentional, I believe it's a bug.
