To me, the only things that really appeal to me are Mario and Zelda, which both look amazing (especially Zelda). Hopefully we actually get the Dragon Quest releases in the West without waiting 1,000 years.

The price, paid online, ports, gimmicks, and weeb games I just do not care for. Ultimately, I doubt I'll get it on launch, I'll have to wait to see what other new games (Metroid, hopefully) will be released in the future before I throw my wallet in.

Pokémon Discussion / Re: Sun and Moon - Magearna Event
« on: December 07, 2016, 10:44:49 pm »
Truthfully, I'm disappointed in this event, mainly because it didn't seem like an "event" at all to me. Rather than, like in Gen III and Gen IV (and Gen V to an extent), receiving some sort of item which would activate a hidden in-game quest for the Pokemon in question, we simply just receive the Pokemon from a deliveryman and get a small bit of backstory.

Pretty disappointing if you ask me. Magearna is cool but I just don't feel the sense of excitement from getting it that I used to feel from events past.
I agree completely. In my view, with the exception of Victini, events have been dead since Gen IV (and even then they never released the Azure Flute).

Generation III Glitch Discussion / Re: Parallel universe

Hmmm, actually, there wass a channel named "paennkeok2012"... However, it was deleted just recently. At this time, his uncommentated version already existed.
Also, I made a error, it was ment to be "x0.5", not "x0.25". Look at paennkoek's "*levelname.mp4* in 0.5 A presses" videos.
Pannenkeok2012 wasn't deleted, it still exists (at the same URL), but it now named UncommentatedPannen'.

Calendar Events / Re: Pokémon Sun and Moon Release.
« on: October 21, 2016, 04:58:33 am »
Remember guys! Sun and Moon get released on 18 November 2016 in the US and possibly Japan, and 23 in Europe. The date for Australia is currently unknown, but it will probably be the same as Europe. 🚞HYPE TRAIN🚞.
Both EB Games and JB Hi-Fi have the Australian release date listed as the 18th of November.

7° P certo, visto che è il settimo piano. Questa gente americana è un po' strana  :D

"8F" refers to the same item in every game. But the 8F item is called 7EME ETAGE in french, and probably something like P7 in italian. That's just because steps are not counted in the same way in english.

in US english*

I didn't know that, sorry  ;D

Aaaaah oddio ho realizzato adesso. Perché in America non esiste il piano terra, partono dal primo piano!

The worst thing is that in Australia half of the buildings start at Ground Floor and half start at First Floor...

Arbitrary Code Execution Discussion / Re: Glitch City RAM Manipulation

Very interesting post!
Just one error to point out though; in your last table, you have the Pokémon listed for hex value 6E as Ditto, when it should be Poliwhirl.

Not sure if someone found this before, but I just discovered a glitch that will work only in GB mode.

Needs someone to confirm it in real monochrome Game Boy though...

Confirmed working on my original Gameboy (and GBA). Taking a decent video/image of it will be a bit of a challenge though...

Welcome, Xiphiidae!

Like you, I've lurked here for some time as well. And Torchickens' excellent work has also inspired and motivated me to make my own contributions, however small :)

As for competitive battling, I'm more of a solo player.

In terms of languages and linguistics, I'm a native Portuguese speaker with reasonable fluency in the English language and some knowledge of Japanese. Torchickens' post above was very interesting to me since I learned a bit more about the "language of Yamato". Another curious thing is that some Japanese words are actually of Portuguese origin.

Thanks :)

I'd like to try to make my own contributions somehow, but it's a bit difficult to know where to start.

Hm, I knew that tempura and pan came from Portuguese but I had no idea that there were so many other words also.

That's a smart idea so I put my friend code in my signature. I'll add you when I get home and then we can battle a few times if you're available.
I tried out Mega-Alakazam but prefer a Life Orb Alakazam rather than the Mega form. Physical-defensive Venusaur is an interesting set - most of the time I see specially-defensive Venusaurs online.

With my team, I've been playing around with a paraflinch Togekiss with a Razor Fang. It's so hellish to play against because around 80% of the time, the opposing Pokemon flinches.

I'll be able to battle in a day or so; flying back home to Australia at the moment.

I've tried out both LO and Sash Alakazam, the fact that Magic Guard negates LO recoil makes it very tempting, but I've found Focus Sash to be very useful, especially with Thunder Wave. I opted for a physically-defensive Venusaur because my team had so much special bulk already.

Ah, yes, paraflinch Togekiss, I know it well. Much rage has been had at that set.

I can't really do Wi-Fi battles, as I lack a 2/3DS and any Gen VI games at the moment, but I do use Showdown. My first Pokémon I EV trained was Rampardos in Diamond. I gave it an EV spread of 4 HP/ 252 Atk/ 252 Speed with a moveset of Rock Polish, Swords Dance, Head Smash and Earthquake. I am not really a fan of Stealth Rock.

Anyone here like CritDra?
I should really get into Showdown, I've heard such good things.

I really dislike Stealth Rock and [Toxic] Spikes. I hope that Nintendo will one day give those moves an accuracy of 70% or something. (Same with Will-O-Wisp, but they actually increased the accuracy in Gen VI.)

I used CritDra for a while; it was pretty good, but there was something about it that I didn't really like, I don't know. I generally prefer using Pokémon that I like, but maybe I'll try it out again.

I've been getting pretty into competitive battling since XY's release, and even more so since ORAS.

I'd be happy to battle you (or anyone else) as well; the Maison and Battle Spot are tedious (3v3 can only be so fun). My FC is under my avatar, if you'd like to battle :)

As for my team, I'm testing out Megas, and it's been difficult finding one that I like. I've tried Alakazam and Gyarados, but I've found that I prefer their non-Mega forms more. At the moment I'm using physically-defensive Mega Venusaur, and I'm finding it pretty good.

Glad to meet you Xiphiidae, hope your time here (however long that may be, hopefully forever), is nothing short of enjoyable.
Also, I'd love to battle you sometime. I've been wanting to get into competitive battling but I haven't really gotten the chance to battle against anyone with the teams I've made on ORAS.

Thank you! (◕‿◕)

I'd love to battle you as well, just add my friend code (under my avatar). I haven't been able to battle many people either; I'm not a huge fan of Battle Spot (I think that I prefer 6v6 to 3v3), and it's annoying that you have to pick out random passers-by if you want to 6v6 battle (and if you do this they can use Legendaries/etc.), so it's not great. Ultimately, I would really like a Stadium-like game to be released for the Wii U.

Hello!
Hello to you too!

They're starting Season 2 with a Pokemon Red Dex Completion run. Join if you're free!
Oh wow, I'll have to get in on that.

I think linguistics is an interesting subject...
Linguistics is indeed interesting. We've had to look at Japanese quite a few times in the past because of its interesting properties (particularly how sentence structure is influenced by context, discourse and topic-prominence), although we only look at romanised Japanese.

Sadly I'm only fluent in English. For me, the most difficult thing about learning a language isn't the sounds or the grammar, but simply building a vocabulary strong enough so that you're able to express yourself.

I'm conversational in Swedish;  I understand how to pronounce words and how to use grammar (Swedish grammar is simple and fairly like English), but I always have problems because I simply don't know enough words. Virtually everyone in Sweden speaks near-perfect English anyway, so it's not that much of a problem, but I'd like to become fluent in it, if possible.

I've been considering doing a TEFL course after I finish my undergrad, but I'm not 100% sure yet. I'm pretty certain that I want to go into teaching, but I don't know whether to teach Science/Biology, Lingustics, English as a Foreign Lanuage or English Language for native speakers. I'm sure that I'll figure it out.

Oh, wow. I've always been interested in game translations/localisations since Mato (of legendsoflocalization.com) did his work on the Mother 3 translation. His analyses on the translations of FFIV and Earthbound are incredibly interesting.

Welcome Xiph!

Have you considered battling on Pokemon Showdown? You don't need to EV train or breed that way, and the battles are shorter thanks to faster and simpler animations.

Also, have you heard about Twitch Plays Pokemon?

I've considered it but I've never tried, actually. I might, but honestly I quite like the breeding aspect, not to mention I can use those Pokés in online/official competitions as well. But Showdown/Online would definitely be good for testing out teams and Pokés though.

Of course ;) Truly it was an incredible way of bringing Gen I back into the limelight.
