Pokémon Discussion / Re: Scrapped Pokémon from Gold and Silver

By far some of the best news I've seen in a while for the old Pokemon games! I thought we'd never see a picture! Well, assuming it's real.

Metapod's shiny is orange so that's kind of funny

Generation VII Glitch Discussion / Small evolution visual error
« on: December 28, 2016, 01:32:09 am »
Not really a big glitch or anything, but I thought it was a little interesting.

In Sun and Moon, when evolving a Pokemon, the model of the evolved Pokemon appears near the top-left corner of the screen for a split second before disappearing. At the very least, this has happened to me when evolving Pichu into Pikachu. If I had to guess, I'd say that the model loads in while the Pokemon is evolving, but appears for a very small period of time before it moves off-screen?

I'll see if I can get a picture of it soon. Has this happened to any of you guys?

EDIT: Ok, here's a kind of crappy picture. I took a video too, but there's a glare of my face in it despite all of my attempts not to catch that, ack

It seems that there is an exploit in Sun and Moon that involves using a Ditto and gathering a lot of eggs in advance (preferably Magikarp) and then hatching them. If one of them is Shiny, you can reset the game and swap out the Magikarp for another Pokemon and the same egg will result in a Shiny of the new species you put in the daycare. Due to this, it's advised saving every 10 hatched eggs or so, so when you reset you aren't set back super far.

Apparently, the stats of eggs are determined so far in advance that they're practically no longer random anymore.

I love Cutiefly and I wanted to use it even though I expected it to be pretty useless...

... until I ran into one and it started slaughtering my team as I was trying to catch it

EDIT: I'm stupid and realized that it's because it was using Roost, which removes its Flying type. Still, it had to have a Calm nature, max HP and a lot of Spdef for it to do only half....

I didn't put this in the Glitch section because it could very well just be me hallucinating or something :p

So I was just in the Battle Tree in my Sun game, and I was battling a trainer that had an Altaria. My Metagross was paralyzed, and it just kept using Roost every time I did any damage. I didn't want to deal with that, so when it was at what I'm CERTAIN was full HP, I switched my Primarina in to decimate it with Ice Beam.

So she uses Ice Beam... and knocks this Altaria down to red HP but doesn't quite KO. I'm like alright whatever, it can't do anything to Primarina, so I'll just kill it next turn. It uses Roost, gets to about half HP... Primarina uses Ice Beam, and... it doesn't die. It lives with a sliver of health. I repeat this next turn. Lives with a liver of red health. This goes on until I finally end up freezing it, THEN I manage to KO it.

I'm absolutely CERTAIN I didn't crit first turn. Primarina is really strong, Modest and has max Sp Atk. Altaria didn't have a Yache berry... there's no WAY Ice Beam was only doing half. I even just did a calc. Ice Beam still almost always OHKOs a Calm Altaria with max HP and Spdef and the best IVs possible. At worst, it does 90%. Wtf gives? Am I going crazy?

I didn't have too much trouble with Kukui, but a few of the totem battles actually proved to be pretty tough. I found them harder than most gym leaders in the previous games.

I think this game had a really good difficulty level. It didn't feel too easy, and it also didn't feel like it was hard in the cheap or artificial way (as in, tons of hax). The totem battles being generally 2 against 1 helps add a little more challenge, even if the helper Pokemon usually aren't super strong.

Wishiwashi was the hardest one for me. b*****d called up a Alomomola with Heal Pulse. Ugh.

I'm a bit late, but I'm glad to hear you got things figured out for yourself, Zowayix :D You too, Torchickens. I had a similar self-discovery a bit over a year ago now, too. I identify as agender myself :)

Like the others said, hope your transition goes smoothly! I've planned stuff too, but I'm not there yet :p

Quote from: Zowayix
I never quite understood the "known since I was 5" narrative, myself. I don't think it actually happens that often at all, maybe in these days where children are educated (are they?) but for people of our generation we wouldn't have had the ability to identify dysphoria or know what transitioning is.

I don't really get it either... and when I hear it it's often from people who are actually a lot older, so I don't even think it's the younger generation. I mean, I can relate a little bit -- I've always really disliked being associated with my birth sex, but I didn't know that being transgender was a thing. So I guess in hindsight, maybe I did "always know", but obviously it never really occurred to me until I researched it. I wouldn't know to call myself that if I didn't know it existed, after all!

Quote from: Torchickens
I have read there may be stigma in which people might say things like 'not trans enough'. Initially it made me anxious until I realized these are just some people's views.

I was afraid of this, too, when I first figured out what I was. Sometimes I still feel like I'm 'not agender enough' or whatever, because I don't have as much dysphoria as some people... but I try not to let it get to me. Like you said, everyone is different and we all express ourselves in different ways :D

As far as I'm aware, it's local wireless only, no Wi-Fi.

Pokémon Discussion / RBY to be released on the 3DS Virtual Console
« on: November 12, 2015, 04:34:44 pm »
As announced on the Nintendo Direct today, Red, Blue and Yellow will be released on the 3DS's Virtual Console on February 26th

Bulbapedia's tweet about it, this is brand new so I don't think it's been posted to anything yet apart from Twitter (at the time of making this topic, anyway)

One of the coolest parts about this, I think, is that it apparently uses the 3DS's Wireless communication to link battle and trade. I wonder how many things they fixed/patched...?

Perhaps you guys will find new and interesting ways to break it  :P

Alright, I figured it most likely wouldn't, but I thought I'd ask just for the sake of thoroughness. :) Thanks!

This is a very minor glitch and perhaps not particularly useful either, but it makes me very curious.

Bulbapedia claims that the Love Ball has an 8x catch rate on Pokemon of the same species, but also the same gender as the Pokemon you currently have sent out in battle. This begs the question: Does this boost also apply to genderless Pokemon? So if I, for example, were to battle an Unown with an Unown of my own, would the Love Ball grant me an 8x multiplier, or is it exclusively male or female Pokemon?

A more fun (and useful) example would be something like Ho-Oh vs. Ho-Oh, but things like Magnemite and Unown are easier to get :p

I assume that genderless Pokemon are, uh... treated as if the gender mechanic doesn't exist at all (well... duh, but I suppose you never know in the older games), but I thought I'd ask anyway, because it seemed really interesting.

Pokémon Discussion / Missing announcer phrases in Pokemon Stadium (Int.)
« on: September 09, 2015, 06:38:54 am »
I don't believe this is a glitch, so I'm posting this in the general Pokemon Discussion section instead. If it turns out it is a glitch, feel free to move it.

_________

So for some reason in this particular version of Pokemon Stadium (the International version, NTSC to be specific) I've been playing, I've noticed two things:

1. Jynx is black instead of purple. I believe I already read somewhere that this is normal for older releases of the game, but the most notable thing is...

2. The announcer is missing at least two phrases. I noticed it immediately because one of them was always really satisfying to hear, and... he never says it in the version of the game I'm playing. In the cartridge I had a long time ago, he did.

The two phrases I'm referring to are "Taken down on the word go!" and "There's been major action already!".

I'mma cite Werster's newly-uploaded Pokemon Stadium speedrun since it's what reminded me. You can hear both of the mentioned phrases at 3:03 to 3:13 or so. There may actually be more as well, but these two are the ones I recognized immediately being missing. Glad there's a video handy, because when I first realized they were missing, I thought I was just going insane or something.

I've never heard anything about this, which is why I'm so curious. It seems to funny to just add phrases in later copies (? I'm assuming later since Jynx's design was changed) of the game. Just for more variety, I guess...?

I've seen and heard all of the (available) general information about the Space World G/S prototypes and I'm always interested in knowing more. Man, if I could get my hands on a copy of one of those carts somehow...  :P

Unfortunately, I haven't heard any new information on these prototypes in a long time. Bulbapedia's article has some pictures of the scrapped Pokemon (though I see you've done some work on Bulbapedia before so I bet you've already seen this!)... but the most unfortunate thing, to me, is that there are no screenshots (well... photos, to be more accurate) anywhere of the demo, so no sprites of those starters or anything. :( I've also heard some other pretty wacky info about the demo, such as really strange wild Pokemon (I can't remember the exacts, but DEFINITELY not what you'd encounter that early in the game!) and I also heard the starters were a higher level in the demo... I think 9 or 10? I also recall hearing that "Chikorita" had a move named "Serene" or something as well? Wonder what that could have been!

According to that Bulbapedia page, Kurusu's Pokedex number was also 212, which is... bizarre.

Oh, also, I translated those names in your post, and I got (this is all assuming Google Translate isn't failing me here):
アクア = Aqua
アクエリア = Aquaria
アニモン = Animon (what)
エレキング = Eleking (Elekid? Or maybe Electivire was planned for G/S too? :S)
ハネコ = Haneko (no idea--- oh it's hoppip apparently)
イカリ = Ikari
ペインター = Painter (99% sure this would be Smeargle)
プクー = "Puku" this one is perhaps that Qwilfish prototype
サニー = Sonny (... well, apparently Sunflora was "Sunny", so maybe this is just a translate fail)
ヨロイドリ = Yoroidori

Phew! That was a long post with... actually little substance, I'm sorry, haha, you've probably seen/heard about most of what I talked about already. I feel like a lot of things surrounding the G/S development are actually kind of mysterious, which makes me like it even more. :D So, overall, I'd say it's fairly obscure. If you find any more/new info, I'd be really excited to hear about it. Sadly I don't understand any Japanese, so I can't read those pages. :(
