Title: Recent purchases
Post by: Bert on April 23, 2013, 09:14:13 pm
Talk about music/film/vidya you bought recently.

I bought Nazareth's Big Dogz album and RATM's self-titled and Evil Empire albums a couple days ago.

I recently bought the Immortal Heroes expansion to the Ascension deckbuilding game (which I highly recommend) and preordered a booster box for the upcoming MTG expansion Dragon's Maze.

If you don't have it, you should get Seventh Son of a Seventh Son. It's an amazing album.

I'll definitely keep an eye out for it. It's harder to get maiden around here though. Most of the local record stores won't carry them, and the ones that do usually have the extremely common albums. I got those two on a yard sale for a buck, and they both are scratch free.

do video games count here? I got a frontloader NES, 2 controllers, and 4 games. Tetris, Skate or die, To the earth, and the other game isn't even worth mentioning. The best part is that all of that was only 70 dollars. Thank you local game stores that aren't gamestop :).

Where do you live? I'm in Canada, and the music stores near me love Maiden. There's often several areas on shelves for IM since they've released so much s**t.

Video games count here, hence the "vidya" in the first post.

odd enough I live in Tennessee, about a half hour drive to Nashville. The record shops here are all individually owned, but the catch is that most the owners are heavy into Christianity. There is a new record shop that just opened up that carries Maiden, but they ask a little much for the LP record albums. Besides, I'm tight on cash and should be saving.

Bought an N64 at a yard sale for 7 bucks. The Ac adapter was broken (cracked casing and even the PCB was cracked when I looked inside) if the console works, that would be great... but if not I can sell the controllers and get a few bucks profit.

EDIT: sold the N64 for 25, and bought Mike Tyson's Punch Out for 20.

I recently bought the game Injustice: Gods Among Us, I finally finished story mode and have moved on to the classic battle mode and missions, though I haven't been playing it much. :V It also came bundled with Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe but I have yet to play that.

Bought a Playstation 1 without the cables or controllers for $15 (it was originally $30 but I haggled them down), bought the cables and controllers for $15 (...at a store that sold the whole package for 30) and the game Klonoa: Door to Phantomile for $30.

(30 dollars for this game is a pretty good deal, look at the usual list prices on ebay (http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid=p2047675.m570.l1313.TR7.TRC1&_nkw=Klonoa+door+to+phantomile&_sacat=0&_from=R40))

Recently purchased Super Pokemon Rumble (haven't gotten around to playing it), a whole bunch of Exit (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exit_Trance) Trance (http://anitra.jp/) CDs (have gotten around to playing them, one of them remixed the second Death Note ending theme and doesn't afraid of anything), something called a "Hime Trance 2" which had some more remixes of silly things (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KjyZh3GcRZc), the soundtrack to American McGee's Alice, and while scouring eBay for items with no bids for <=99 cents I ended up winning Mixmag Presents: The Global House Experience (the disc is damaged as f**k, I haven't gotten around to attempting to restore it).

And some Pikachu slippers, I don't know if that fits in the vidya banner or not because they're vidya memorabilia.

So, kids; always remember: Having lots of money is fun.

For some reason I never realised Steam would be a valid point of discussion for this thread. Though if I mentioned every single thing I buy on Steam, I would probably end up flooding the thread. So I guess I'll just mention some highlights:

- To the Moon. See also: http://steamcommunity.com/id/zowayix/recommended/206440/ (http://steamcommunity.com/id/zowayix/recommended/206440/). So many feels.
- Every Tomb Raider game in existence
- Gundemonium Recollection just for the arranged soundtrack (I have no intention of actually playing a bullet hell game).

And in the music category I purchased the soundtrack to Ys 1 + 2 Chronicles even though I could have just taken the music files from Steam and saved myself a few tens of dollars. I make a whole lot of sense sometimes.

Oh I did buy something. I bought a ps1 memory card, because the dudes at the shop held and set aside my ps2 when I left it there on accident. Although it was a waste seeing that the ps2 won't read the disk even though it was cleaned....

I like steam for what it is, but I feel that old games are best played on the original consoles, except the NES frontloader if you suffer from epilepsy (seriously, games tend to flash a LOT, and that system is so bright on the t.v. screen)

I bought a Razer Megalodon headset, the better to hear you with, my dear...

And I completely missed the steam summer sales while playing modded XCom in offline mode.

Also, got my friend a copy of Fraps so we could record together, though that's more of a gift than a purchase.

Still need better editing software. I've been switching between 30 day trials and windows movie maker, and I'd like to end that cycle (running out of new trials to take advantage of...), so if anyone has good recommendation of free editing software, that'd be helpful.

Preordered Pokeymans X and Y today. Normally I'd wait until the release date, but I was curious to see what kind of preorder bonuses they give out. Which they did.

And it was a Pokeball. Not a free shiny Pokemon. Not a free regular but awesome Pokemon. Not even a collectible figure of some sort, but just a Pokeball.

FUCKING GAMESTOP EBGAMES

To be fair, it looks like it's supposed to hold games in it (and I am going to end up needing a 3DS game case).

Does it cost extra to pre order? Or is it the same as when it first comes out?
I'm not sure where you're at Zowayix, but always hit local game shops if you can. (it's like walking into EBGames 15 years ago, but they have more!!!)

I purchased some non-slip shoes for work, nothing too exciting.
Whoever purchases this (http://www.amazon.com/DELUXE-POKEDEX-POKEMON-HANDHELD-ENCYCLOPEDIA/dp/B001LOA1VW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1375400236&sr=8-1&keywords=pokedex+gold) wins the game.

Costs the same amount to preorder barring scenarios that in retrospect are pretty likely to happen, such as the game's price going down on the actual release date.
There aren't really any "local" (inferring the intended meaning of this word is non-global franchisey) shops here in Canberra, other than that one pre-owned style games place that probably doesn't even have a website and if I went there and asked about Pokemon XY they would most likely look at me funny. ("What? Games released in the current decade? Ain't none of that s**t here" or something)

I thought I might quote myself here just because of how true that last part has become. I just looked at my eBay purchase history and it seems I've gone off the deep end of anime fandom. I apparently purchased the first 6 or so volumes of the Higurashi manga, the soundtrack to Higurashi's second season, the soundtrack to the answer arcs to the visual novels, and my waifu in the fanservice cafe uniform.

Hey, at least I don't have one of those body pillow with anime characters on it things. Yet.

EDIT: Well, s**t. Now that last statement is untrue. In my defense, they had Rena in catgirl form. I couldn't not buy one. I'm only a mortal human.

Zowayix, i want to see this fork, and i want to know how much you spent on this said fork.

$12.08 AUD + $3.23 postage, though by asking me you probably jinxed it which is why it hasn't shown up yet even after a month and 5 days since I purchased it. So, to avoid this happening again, I'm only going to post about things that have arrived successfully.

Mostly a drunk purchase, but it may well turn out to be more effective than my current electric razor and I may finally be free of this stereotypical neckbeard. Who knows.

On the CD front, to be actually relevant to this topic's original intention:
- X-Treme Hard Compilation 7
- M-Project vs. DJ Sharpnel - Xtreme Warfare EP
- b*****d Pop Terrorists Vol. 17
- The Day of Hardcore Vol. 9 (the people at j-core.biz like to send me free DJ mixes with my order)
- Exit Tunes Presents Stardom 2
- Rabbit Horror 3D soundtrack (I believe the baka gaijin version is called 'Tormented', but I don't care about the actual movie behind it, I'm just here for Kenji Kawai)
- Anime House Project -some moonrunes- 2
