Video Games / Re: Making my own video game

Why not doing it on an actual 16-bit console? GBA seems to be pretty nice to start on.
Timings, bankswitching, etc. can be a hassle, but on modern systems you don't NEED to worry about them!!!!1!!!!2!!!!

Shouldn't this be in the non-core games forum?
yes and no. Technically it's a remake of Yellow, but it's also basically Pokemon Go.

dammit GF quit the bs and make up your mind on which you're gonna go with

Wiki Discussion / Re: 0x vs. $

I don't see the point in differentiating addresses and values because you need context anyway.
Fast identification.
Has there ever been a programming language that's used $ for hexadecimal? Where did $ even start?
Assembly.
Of course I can tell $ is hexadecimal if it's in context but I don't see a reason to use a symbol that means other things (e.g. currency, Perl/shell/PHP variables) when 0x doesn't mean anything else as a prefix.
If context matters, this is a moot point.

The "h" prefix is barely used, and just plain stupid. I'm against it.

see, look. It looks good, better than 0x or $, anyway

A fistful of Codeboy. Wow. :XD: Just what I needed to see right now.

Come to think of it, if it covers PS1 and Saturn, are there any codes for Atelier Marie in there?
Nope. None found for all 4 systems...
Dang. Well, thanks for looking, anyway! (The game was originally released on PS1, but a Saturn version was later made. Also, it could be under either "A" or "M" if looking alphabetically.)
Wait, A OR M? I only checked A...
....nnnnope, still nothing.
EDIT: HOWEVER, I found these for the PS1 version online: http://www.cheatcc.com/psx/codes/amp.html (not actually their AMP page but ok)

I appreciate the suggestion, but I've only ever used the NDS version of GameYob. Not having to take my SD out of my 3DS, being able to play it on a different DS if I somehow feel like it, being used to it, all that. What version is your fork based off?
The emulation is separate from the per-system wrapper, like in Sameboy. That's how the original was set up, so that's how mine is set up.

As for not having to take your SD card out of your 3DS, you can use 3DShell to have it start an FTP server, allowing remote file uploads.

The scrolling is handled in Assembly, everything else is BASIC. That's why the scroller's so fast. (Fun fact: scrolling in BASIC by just one line, like done in the demo every time the ASM is called, would take 3 to 4 minutes!)

It was like years of off-and-on work.
