It's unlikely that anything from the previous save file is the culprit, particularly not anything as benign as the skipping Pewter City Gym glitch. Since other people have encountered it before and were most likely not attempting that glitch on their previous save files, I think we can rule that out.

My personal guess, though it's not based on anything concrete, is that it has something to do with dirty or damaged contact points between the GameBoy and cartridge, since everyone who has reported it encountered it a) on a cartridge copy of Pokemon Blue and b) a rather old one at that. Something akin to cartridge tilting on the Nintendo 64 for example. However since you still have the glitch after resetting the game, that might not be the case either.
Video of the glitch here:

Essentially, they just started a new game playing on a classic GameBoy and using a Pokemon Blue cartridge, and played up through Vermilion City, taking small breaks, saving the game and turning the GameBoy off and back on again periodically to let the GameBoy cool down. They had just gotten the bike voucher in Vermilion and traded it in for a bicycle, and upon trying to use the item for the first time the message "You can't get off here" appeared. No matter where they were when they tried to use the bike from the bag, be it in a house, in a town, or a cave, the same message appeared and they could not get on the bike. Apparently others have experienced this glitch, as documented here:

But no possible causes have been found. It seems to occur mostly on cartridge copies of the game. This obviously isn't one of those fun exploitable glitches with wacky effects or anything, but I figured someone here might be interested in figuring out what causes it none the less. I asked the poster to explain in as much detail as possible what they did leading up to this glitch but all they said was that they were playing through the game "normally. Catching pokes, beating trainers, beating Gym Leaders, etc."

They eventually did fix the glitch by entering Diglett's Cave and using Dig. However they reset the game after fixing it so they could play around with the glitch some more.
Pokémon Discussion / Action Replay Code Request?
« on: March 24, 2013, 11:23:54 pm »
I hope it's acceptable to post things like this here because it appears that another similar thread is locked. However I've been desperately trying to find this code so if anyone can help please do!

I need an Action Replay code that will enable the National Dex on Pokemon Emerald (and as such allow you to trade with Fire Red and Leaf Green). I have been trying everything in the book to be able to play through Emerald with my Singing Meowth from XD Gale of Darkness but with this weird restriction in place I can't! So if anyone knows a code to enable it, please share it with me.

I have found a GameShark code that is supposed to enable it, but the format is wrong so it won't work with my Action Replay. If it helps anyone with creating this code, the GameShark version of the code is (supposedly)

It's also important that this code work on my actual AR Max Duo and Emerald Cart. I've been messing with a lot of codes that work perfectly on VBA but work incorrectly on my device and cart so I don't want this to happen again.

Thank you in advance to anyone who can help me!

I finally got this to work myself, except for one thing.

So as soon as I load the corrupted save file, I switched the 2nd Pokemon with the 10th. Then looking at my items, I switched the item under the Master Ball with the Iron in my bag. According to the sites Torchickens linked me to, this should change the warp to a corrupted version of the HoF room. Well, rather than that, it changed it to a corrupted version of Pokemon Tower. Groooooannnnn...

I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong! I follow every step in the video EXACTLY, perfectly, but it never turns out right. The Glitchy item in my bag for some reason is called something different than it is in the video every time too :/

I have now tried this with every single Channeler in Pokemon Tower and I haven't gotten one that doesn't give me the "Missingno. is trying to learn" message. When you try it Raven Freak, do you try it on the same trainer over and over?

Which Channeler did you battle? I battled the two on the 3rd floor and they both gave me the "Missingno. is trying to learn" thing.
Generation I Glitch Discussion / Missingno. in Yellow

So through the Mew glitch it is possible to encounter Missingno in Yellow version by using a Pokemon with the special stats 31, 32, 61, 62, 63, 67, 68, 69, or 86. Unfortunately, most attempts at encountering Missingno. this way result in the message "Missingno. is trying to learn" repeating over and over until the game eventually crashes. However, it is possible to encounter Missingno in Yellow and actually battle it normally, as demonstrated in this video:

The player demonstrates this using a Pokemon with the special stat 67, and after just 13 tries is able to battle Missingno. However, I have been trying all day without success. Are there certain conditions that must be met in order to battle Missingno in Yellow version? Suppose I made a savestate right before triggering the battle, would I be able to just load it over and over or would I need to perform the entire glitch every time to get different results?

When you turn off the game as it’s saving at that exact optimal moment, the data for how many Pokemon you have in your party becomes corrupted, which is why you are now carrying over six Pokemon with no names or data. When you switch the 2nd glitch Pokemon in your party with the 10th, the byte that holds the amount of items you have is changed, and your bag can now access much more memory than it’s supposed to. This is why when you check your bag, you’ll be carrying so many glitch items and items that you haven’t actually obtained, like the master ball, gold teeth, and so on. These items actually represent the different variables in your save data, your x-y coordinates, your rivals name, your trainer ID, and the data for the warp of the room you’re in. So when you switch your Pokemon and items around, you're accessing and changing different bytes in the game, and editing different variables.

Seems like every time I post here its for help with a glitch ^^; Sorry

Anyway, this time this is the culprit:

From my understanding all I had to do was use Fire Spin and Mirror Move on the first turn and then switch to a weak Pokemon on the Fire Spin game second turn.

This was the result:

All that happens is when I switch to the weak Pokemon the turn ends, leaving me with no chance to attack on the second turn. Am I doing something wrong?

Judging by the posts Torchickens linked to, the corruption of items is CAUSED by switching the Pokemon in your party around, so if you don't do that part you won't get the item overflow.

Edit: Read the post carefully, you're messing with the RAM when you switch stuff around like that. If you read the post you'll learn more about how to control the results.

EDIT 2: NO SERIOUSLY GUYS READ THAT STUFF. It will explain why switching your Pokemon has such an effect on the game, why the rival's name keeps changing, etc etc.

Ohh I see, that explains a lot. I may just need to use a different Pokemon then

Same thing happens when I try it on Agatha.

I will try both the wild Tentacool/Hyper Beam and the Link Cable Battle versions though.
