General Discussion / Good to see this place alive!
« on: July 07, 2013, 02:52:23 am »
Hi, all.

Some of you folks that have stuck around here for a long time may remember me, but to most of you I'm probably a new face. Long story short, I used to mess around on this forum when I was around 14-16 years of age, just having discovered the wonders of the internet. For some reason I was drawn here and loved reading about Pokemon glitches and all that jazz. I never really contributed anything... At all. =P But I had a great deal of fun (sometimes at the expense of others) and I learned quite a bit. Not just about glitches and Pokemon, but about social interaction. I never really had a lot of friends growing up, and I was a pretty solid introvert well into my teens.

This place was a starting point of sorts for me to break out of my shell. Not long after I hit 16, I started talking to more people, making friends at my high school. I had a circle of people I could rely on. I starting going out, I got my first girlfriend. I got interested in music, joined a band. I became a social butterfly... But I deviated away from the internet life I had. Truthfully, I had forgotten about it almost completely within the following years.

GCL (and another forum I was active in around the same time) had a serious, irrevocable hand in developing me into the person I am today. And I like who I am and where I stand, so it's only fit and proper that I give credit where credit is due.

Thank you, Glitch City Labs. Thank you, everyone who has had a hand in it. Whether you helped get this place off the ground, were part of the members I interacted with, or you help keep it afloat today, I applaud you.

I thought about the site today, spontaneously, and what all it had done for me. That prompted me to try my old password... Which prompted me to lurk around the threads for the bit... And here I am spilling my guts. =P I just wanted to congratulate you guys on still being here, still being true. It's great seeing this place still up and running. Makes my heart feel good! <3

I'm entering into my junior year in college in a couple of months, I've got a job, and I'm still with that silly band of mine. So I'm not quite saying I'm gonna make a return, because I'm as busy as someone that's really busy... But I may check it in my down time and post once in a while.

Excellent job, guys.

Much love,
GC

So have I! I live in the southern United States, otherwise known as HICKVILLE. I'm the only guy with long hair for miles and miles around. But I love it! It goes down about halfway down my back... I'm considering cutting it off and donating to to Locks of Love when I graduate in May. =3

I've never understood why we as a people always have to host some ridiculous event to raise money. If we just donated some cash outright, then we would save the money it cost to set up the event to begin with.

I don't get it. Just saying.

I would have s**t myself if I had encountered a zombie in my Pokemon game at the age of 5.

What ever happened to this place being a Drama Llama Free Zone?!? Can we not even welcome a new member into our ranks without taking jabs at one another? This is a very sad state of affairs for our community, if we have fallen to this level. Please, can everyone just try to stay on good terms with each other? Put aside differences? Maybe keep your personal attacks... Well, PERSONAL. If you don't have anything positive to say, then don't say anything.

That being said, welcome krutomisi! Pleased to meet you.  ;)

So I'm stuck in Ice Path now D: Its so annoying!
OH GOD, the ice path gave me such fits as a child! X) lol I hope I'm better at it this time around, but I haven't gotten HG yet... I'm a little strapped for cash at the moment, while trying to save for Warped Tour this summer XP
Warped tour? NICE!
haha its ALWAYS given me trouble D:
I NEED MAPZ FOR HG!
Yeah concert t-shirts are kick-ass, but the price kicks my ass. X( I have such good memories of Gold version though, I really hope that HG captures that nostalgia for me.

I don't see the Quilava in the Grass one or the Torchic in the Fire one.
But I see Mime Jr. and Piplup in the Water.
I agree with you!
I see more of a Cyndaquil/Treeko kind of deal going on with the first one

Maybe I meant Cyndaquil instead of Quilava, ha ha.

*UPDATE*

Ok, it hit me today... I was talking to a friend (who is a member here, he he) and she pointed out the similarities of these new starters to older Pokemon.
Here's what I see when I look at the new Pokemon...

Quilava + Treeko

Tochick + Spoink

Mr.Mime + Piplup

Anyway, I think I'm fine with the other new ones. Except the pigeon.

The pink thing is kinda lame too.

Not like GameFreak needs my permission.

It'd be sweet if they did though.

More Black and White information surfacing

So, new Pokemon.

Hihidaruma looks like Rock Lee from Naruto.  Someone make an image macro showing the similarities and a witty caption... now.

Those all look alright by me...

Except there's another FUCKING pigeon!!!

Here's a difference: Pidgey is supposed to be a pidgeon, whereas Starly is supposed to be a starling. Two different birds.
And EVERYONE remembers Farfetch'd. He was a wild duck with a leek! What's not to remember? He needs a badass evo....
Though I do see your point. Especially about Pokabu being a mini, firey Grumpig.
I know they're supposed to be two different birds, but they look so similar, along with their evolutions. Their move sets are almost identical too. I never really saw the point in Starly.

First of all can I say, I can't see your picture.

Secondly, well the idea of "orginal" has three definitions among Pokemon fans (that I've seen any ways):

1. It is difficult to tell what animal(s), plant(s), object(s) and/or myth(s) it is based off of.

2. It is not copying ideas or designs off of the older generationsor other battle monster series orginal creatures.

3. It has a concept and it is one that hasn't been used before.

Super true.

I cant imagine Farfetch'd with an evolution..that'd be weird o.O

Absir'd.
(Not real, but awesome.)

Did you make that? That's pretty kick ass my friend! He could be a flying/fighting type...

I'm getting Black. :]

And when it comes to this stupid thing with "Oh all the new Pokemon suck!!!1"
All I think about is this image. It irks me when people get upset about new the new Pokemon because they're "not creative".

The only reason we think so badly about these new Pokemon is because we're not stupid, carefree children.

My words exactly. I bet that if Mewtwo had debuted in this game, he wouldn't have been liked as he is now.

Maybe I didn't choose my words right when I said this new generation isn't original. I can see how the first generation of Pokemon weren't exactly original other than Pokemon like Mewtwo, because he looks like something no one has ever seen. He has balls for his freaking fingers!

Making Pokemon that resemble real-world animals is all good. Pokemon like Stunky are good additions because their species (in this case, skunks) hasn't been used before. But when you have three Pokemon based on the same animal and they have only slightly different variations between them, that's when I have an issue. I mean, Starly is just a Pidgey with a different color scheme. Farfetch'd isn't that great of an idea either (Does anyone really remember him?) and the only thing separating that guy from Pidgey is the fact that he fights with a freaking leek. And that just seems random. On the other hand however, Swablu and Skarmory are good examples of how you can take a Pokemon that's already been done (bird-like Pokemon) and creatively rework it. Even Chatot was a good idea, because even though there are many bird Pokemon, there was no parrot variation.

You see, the pinnacle of creativity and originality is when you can create something no one has ever seen or even thought of. (Mewtwo, Bronzor, Rotom, Ralts, Shuckle, Abra)

I'm just saying... I think they could do better with some of their designs.

Debate Wars / Re: Religion
« on: June 10, 2010, 02:55:52 pm »
This pretty much sums up what I belive in a nutshell. I'm spiritual, but not religious.

I believe there is a supreme being, but I do not believe that this being intervenes in our lives. I think something created the universe, because it's way too complex to just have randomly happened, but I don't believe that there is some moral code you have to live your life by. You make your own moral code and if you can't abide by it that's your own fault, not some devil's. I don't hate religion though. If more people were kind and loving like most religions teach their followers to be, our earth would be a better place. I do think people do bad things, and "sin", if you will. I'm just not sold on the idea of a heaven or a hell. I mean, I'd like to imagine that good people are rewarded and the evil are punished in the end, but that may just be fairy tale talk.

I do know one thing for sure though: "If there is no God, man would create one for himself."
