Generation II Glitch Discussion / Re: Map 0xDA00 (English Gold/Silver)
« on: March 25, 2018, 11:15:41 am »
It doesn't work in VBA anyway.

It has never been a good emulator. Try BGB, Gambatte, mGBA, and/or even VBA-M (the present-day maintained version of VBA).
You're most welcome and likewise ;)

I updated my post to include the complete patch.
The Dumpster Out Back / [DELETED]

I initially found it in Korean Gold and Silver and then checked Japanese Crystal.

p-p-pfero from the pret Discord looked into the bug and found it was in this snippet:

Code: [Select]
    ld hl, wPokegearMapCursorLandmark
    ld a, [hl]
    cp e
    jr nz, .wrap_around_down
    ld a, d
    inc a
    ld [hl], a
    dec [hl]

The fix:
Code: [Select]
    ld hl, wPokegearMapCursorLandmark
    ld a, [hl]
    inc e
    cp e
    jr nc, .wrap_around_down
    inc d
    ld [hl], d
    dec [hl]

And I'm glad that it was exploitable for ACE! :)

Do you see it listed under the Links board atop the main page?
Wiki Discussion / Re: NIWA - should we consider joining them?
« on: March 12, 2018, 08:57:41 am »
I'm fine with us joining the NIWA but please be aware of why it was founded in the first place: it was a way for Bulbapedia to take a stab at Wikia who wanted to buy it. Not to mention the sort of war that existed between Bulbapedia and the Pokémon Wiki on Wikia a decade ago due to plagiarism and similar issues.

My head canon:

Bulbapedia is stealing our info from an old cloned version of the site from back before we did the mass update of the Wiki.

i have nothing relevant to add, they're just a shittier fork of our site with a new skin and general info along with their outdated glitch info.

They aren't doing that but their focus is neither bugs or unused content as both types of information there are a huge mess and one which nobody seems to be interested in. It is currently disservicing their readers so it would actually be an improvement if they removed it altogether and pointed to us as a source for bugs while linking to TCRF as a source for unused content and general datamining. Note that I'm not saying that they shouldn't have info on bugs or unused content at all but that it would be better handled if they limited it to contextual references on the relevant articles (e.g.: mentioning that the Kanto Safari Zone was planned then scrapped for Gold and Silver on the location's article itself, which they already do, and pointing to here and/or TCRF if people want to find out more about it).
Generation IV has unused Pokémon sprites however, and Generation III has two unused cries (found in the leaked Pokémon Ruby German Debugging Version 0509A, unsure if they remain in the final game).

The unused cries are in every Generation III game, you can listen to them from Sound Check (サウンドチェック), which is equally present across the 5 versions.
Pokémon Discussion / Re: Debug menus in Japanese Crystal
« on: October 29, 2017, 10:25:40 am »
yes but i want to make a ips patch for a later work with the GS Ball event enabled, something like the western patch

Oh, my apologies, I misunderstood your question. From what I understand, the Game Genie codes Háčky provided in that post are for patching that specific debug menu's entries so that they point to the addresses of the final release ROM instead.

According to this,

Code: [Select]
size: 8 Bit
address: 0x7208
compare: 0xDA
value: 0x9D

Code: [Select]
size: 8 Bit
address: 0x7210
compare: 0xEA
value: 0xAD

You probably need to analyze the code of the triggers in the PCC and the Trade Corner attendant's script in order to achieve your goal. The Japanese version's event code shouldn't be too different from the English version's.
I'm not trying to finish the game really fast, but after countless gen II files over the years, it's interesting to see how fast I can finish everything now. Gen II is my favourite Pokemon gen easily.

I juut love the old Pokemon games. I've only owned a 3DS for a month and all I've played is VC Gold. Will have to get into the newer Pokemon games eventually, but I'm seriously out of the loop on things - as the last newest gen Pokemon game I played was Pokemon White and I have no knowledge on the any of the new Pokemon from gen 6 and gen 7.

The classic-era Pokémon games were all directed by Tajiri, except for Crystal, which was directed by Masuda as per the Japanese version credits and according to himself.

Quote from: Junichi Masuda

Quote from: Junichi Masuda
Around this time, my main task changed to the director work. Therefore, the number of the composed music had drastically decreased.

Masuda also didn't originally work on Gold and Silver despite being listed as the game's subdirector.

Tajiri's roles switched from director to executive director and executive producer, and he has alternated between the two ever since Ruby and Sapphire. This may explain the perception that the modern games are "different" and why so many of us are attached to the old games even if we like the new ones, too! :)

Thanks for answer but i wana patch the GS Ball event only, the manually have any chance with manually edit ?

Or Game Genie without add debug menu ?

If you want to receive the GS Ball in the PCC, either change address 0xA000 accordingly as per my post or use GameShark code 010B00A0.

This Game Genie code don works for this rom

what rom you have used for a working GS Ball code ?

Thanks a lot

Hey, Jsierra008. You need to patch a legit ROM with the patch attached here to make the Game Genie codes usable. Alternatively, for the GS Ball, you just have to trigger the event without patching anything (link).

Hope this helps! :)
FFMPEG returns errors when converting BGB videos into WebM.

That's strange! :( What is ffmpeg's output?

What I usually do after merging the AVI and WAV is encode the video to WebM with VP9 on Constant Quality mode. The following snippet is the command I recall using for that process:

Code: [Select]
ffmpeg -i "/path/to/video.avi" -c:v libvpx-vp9 -crf 0 -b:v 0 -c:a libopus -pix_fmt yuv420p "/path/to/video.webm"
May make a video of it like Nostalgia suggested, and if you make one too I'll add a link to it in my video description.

Torchickens, could you also link to it using cards? :) They appear on the top-right side of the video player and automatically hide under a circular i button.

I already have the AVI and WAV ready, but I can't combine them yet, i've been scrambling for a video editor that can do this to no avial.

Any suggestions?

Code: [Select]
ffmpeg -i "/path/to/my-awesome-video.avi" -i "/path/to/its-dope-audio.wav" -c copy "/path/to/yay-we-have-sound-now.avi"
I can make a video of it, provided I can figure out how lol

BGB lets you capture both video and audio! :)
