Hi. I found the slots overlay file in Japanese HG/SS, is overlay_0077, but inserting it into the US version don't work, the game crash. I tried to insert it replacing the Voltorb filp overlay file (Overlay_0122), 'cause the script command is the same in US and J versions, and overlay_0077 in US version is only a placeholder, a dummy file of 20 bytes.

The pointer to the slot machines texts group have to be updated to work with the US rom versions, 'cause in (J) version the text group is the number 429 (0x01AD) in the US versions also if is blank is the number 436. Is at the offsets:

0xA48 (uncompressed overlay_0077 file)
0x7A6 (compress overlay_0077 file)

I verified changing it in the J version, where the overlay file works.

I found also the graphic file, is cleared but isn't a problem, I can replace the J graphic file with the censored and the code still works however, however is stored in A/1/2/7 file.

I don't know why the Overlay_0077 file can't works in the U version, maybe have to be updated like the texts to right other resources file in the rom. Someone could know how repair it? And maybe (also if this is harder) link it to dummy script commands to keep both Voltorb flip and Slots minigames? Overlay_0077 is however existing in the US version and can be replaced trough NitroExplorer, but I don't know if there are script commands linked, I know only that there are a lot that do the same black screen/return to the game function.

However the major thing to do will be repair the Overlay file, Voltorb Flip isn't so important, I'll prefer replace it if necessary to restore the slots.

I found the script command link (I think) in the ARM9 file, I can change the value 0x7A (Voltorb flip 122 overlay file) to 0x4D (Overlay 77 slot file) and then the game crash when have to load the Voltorb flip... I think is the right place where force the game to load Overlay_0077 instead of 122, but the code is certainly incompatible (yet) with US roms.

Someone could fix it please?
Ganix/Cryo was the one working on HG/SS/D/P/P overlays, maybe see if he can help?

It's not an exception, while it's hardware-backed it's not confirmed to be 100% true to the original GBA. Particularly for timing things.
that's fair. At least it's not total s**t like the others, though.

I suggest using BGB to test your hack, as it's the most accurate GB/GBC.
SameBoy is, technically, but ok.

GBA VC is the only exception to this, as it's hardware-backed.

I can inject a ROM into RetroArch's Gambatte core, and it becomes a standalone game, like VC. It looks a lot like an actual VC game. If they extract the ROM from a copy of the actual VC title, I can just do this for them, they can install it, and can pull their save too.

Hell, I can even add more features, like rapid-fire, screenshots, fast forward, custon controls, rewind (N3DS/N2DS only), all kinds of good s**t.

there's no real loss to it, and it makes the game accurate.

i'll probably extend these services to those using stock VC, since i'd require an extracted ROM from a VC title.

make this version appear to be at least more accurate than VC G/S.
It's all the same VC version, just a swapped-out ROM.

Actually, that's not true, there are 2 versions, but it was just improvements to sound output (OUTPUT TO THE 3DS, not handling the GBx side of it.)

Yeah I saw the icon in the recent unread topics list had a lock on it, and I was like "eh? What is this?" but I guess it's just computers being weird. Oh well.

Ooh I'm looking forward to what you have planned, ZZAZZ! Looking at github is making me want to continue working on my Sonic 1 Game Gear disassembly. :V Does anyone else have the same issue as me? I start projects, get bored with said projects, start new ones, then I end up going back to projects I haven't touched in a while. xD

Bow w/ Poison Arrows+Weakness Arrows+Slowness Arrows, Potion of Invisibility (extended time), permanent Weakened status, no armor: Saboteur
Splash Potion of Fire Resistance, Speed, Resistance, Strength, Invisibility, etc, Stick w/ Fire Aspect 1, Leather Armor: "Bard" (best I could do for a buff Bard)
Crossbow, Stick w/ Knockback 4, Splash Potion of Levitation, Leather Armor: Ranger
Trident w/ Riptide + Knockback 2 (mod for dry Riptide needed), Splash Potion of Damage 2/Poison 2, Leather Chest+Chain Leggings: Dragoon (or a FF7 Aeris build)

Builds with enchanted Sticks only have the enchantments effect things when playing on Java or Modern PC versions.

This is so much cooler though!
I can't really do Glitzer Popping. IIRC in FireRed/LeafGreen you have to trade a Pokemon over from the other Gen 3 games for it, and because he's on a Chromebook, Netplay is broken.

Yeah, if you're using an emulator, you can just use cheat codes - just sneak them in using a GameShark code file -- here, I made one for VBA... :^)
what part of "RetroArch/mGBA, on a Chromebook" did you miss? xD

i need specific codes.
