Generation I Glitch Discussion / Defense Up 1 Glitch
« on: September 19, 2019, 07:23:36 pm »
So I just recently attempted to do a Weedle only run in Blue version when I came across this glitch which makes the run impossible. I call it the Defense Up 1 glitch, because all moves that have this effect triggers this. It also seems to effect Poison type moves only, I'm currently not sure if it effects other types. I attempted to beat Brock with my level 17 Weedle when I could no longer hit Geodude after it used Defense Curl within two turns. Poison Sting's accuracy rate is 100%, but the Defense_Up1 effect seems to decrease any Poison type move's accuracy, making each move miss. Is this oversight well known? I know I haven't been keeping up with this place lately. :P I also haven't checked if the defense_up2 causes this to happen, so it could very well be the same case.

Pokémon Discussion / Fuchsia City Sign Copy
« on: March 31, 2019, 11:14:56 am »
I didn't know where to put this, and I haven't seen this documented on The Cutting Room Floor, so I assume it's not well known. Anyways I'm currently editing Fuchsia City in my Pokemon Red/Blue hack and noticed there's an inaccessible sign a few tiles above and to the right from Bill's grandparent's house. (It's exact coordinates are 15, 23.) I looked at the text script for Fuchsia, and low and behold Text 11 and 12 point to the Fuchsia City sign, and that inaccessible sign is just a copy of the sign. Meaning the layout of the city changed sometime in development, and they forgot to remove the original sign but added a new sign. It's still present in Yellow as well, take a look:

Website Advertisement / Retro Gaming Challenges Forum
« on: February 22, 2019, 06:41:46 pm »
I just started this forum, I mainly got the idea to create a forum so I can post my own personal updates on a specific Pokemon challenge that I'm about to start, but then I figured other people can share their own challenges if they like too. The challenge is the Professor Oak challenge, which you can read more about in my topic over there. The forum uses SMF, just like this site so if you're comfortable using this forum, you shouldn't have too much of a issue using RGC. https://retrogamingchallenges.createaforum.com/index.php

Debate Wars / Nintendo Switch Vs. 3DS/New 3DS
« on: February 17, 2019, 06:24:02 pm »
Seeing that old Nintendo DS vs Gamecube topic made me want to create this topic, seeing how the Switch is a handheld/console hybrid and can be better compared to the 3DS family of handhelds than the DS against the Gamecube. Which console (or handheld) do you prefer? Personally I like the 3DS better. I don't really care for the joy cons too much, and because of that I hardly play my Switch docked. If the newest Pokemon games were still going to be released on the 3DS I probably wouldn't have bothered to get a Switch. (Well I got it for Christmas of 2017.) SSB is great, and there are some pretty good exclusives such as Octopath Traveler and Super Mario Odyssey but I mainly wanted a Switch for Pokemon alone.

Since Kingdom Hearts III was finally released a few weeks ago I figured we could have a topic to talk about it. I've only played a little bit of the second game myself, but I watched my girlfriend play through most of the games, and watched the cutscenes from other games. (Specifically ReCOM, 358/2, Re:Coded, 3Ds, 2.8, and a retelling of the mobile game Union Cross) She finished KH3 the other day, and it was definitely worth the wait. There was a twist at the end, and she did unlock the secret ending. There was one part specifically that made me say "wtf" out loud in confusion. WARNING there's a spoiler ahead! If you don't want to read it, then I suggest leaving the topic. The Final World, it's really a glorified animation test script when you think about it. I assume that world was used for testing purposes, but the devs kept it in since it fit the story. You run around collecting different Sora's that run through all his animations in the game. Though if you collect a certain amount, your HP gets maxed out. :V What are your thoughts on KH?

Wiki Discussion / Auto Approve Wiki Edits
« on: March 29, 2016, 05:37:19 pm »
Now I can see why staff need to approve edits on the wiki, because I know it's a pain in the butt to fix edits made by people who purposely vandalize a page. But I've been fixing the Glitchdex making it look a bit more organized than it is now, and it's slightly annoying to wait for someone to approve the edits. Plus, even if someone was to mess up a page, anyone with the rollback option can quickly revert the page to a previous revision, and then ban whoever messed the page up. I was just wondering if maybe this feature can be removed for members who are Members+ and above. If not that's fine. :P

Wiki Discussion / ItemDex & AttackDex question
« on: March 22, 2016, 12:13:04 pm »
So out of curiosity, how come the itemdex and attackdex pages are completely blank? I know the description states that it was created by an extension, but was there supposed to be stuff added to the page at a later date? I know you could just use the Wayback archive to check the old pages, but I was curious on to why these pages were blank.

Generation VI Glitch Discussion / Stolen Pokeball Glitch? Pokemon X and Y
« on: October 30, 2013, 01:05:06 pm »
So while surfing Bulbagarden I decided to check out the glitch list for X and Y and was amazed to see other glitches besides the two that are well known. (The Egg and Lumiose City Save glitch) and stumbled across this one. This is taken from their wiki:
Quote
During the fifth chapter of the Looker Agency missions, the player is required to enter the room containing the stolen Poké Balls that are held within the Secret Lab of Lysandre Labs. In the upper-left corner, there is a table with a chair and two of the stolen Poké Balls nearby surrounding a second chair. If the player interacts with the table on its right or while sitting down, the game will trigger the "It's someone's Poké Ball" message despite there being no Poké Ball on the table. Returning to the room after the chapter is over will not display the message if the table is interacted with again.
They don't have any images nor a video for this glitch and seeing how I haven't done any of these missions I was wondering if someone here would be willing to try this glitch out and maybe make a video. It's a minor glitch, but I still wouldn't mind seeing it in action. :P

Ah the infamous glitch we all know about Super Glitch, I've decided to "teach" super glitch to my Rhydon in German Blau version to document what variants of this move are dangerous, or flat out annoying. Now it's in text format but maybe I will make videos of each move in action later. I know there's a very outdated thread here talking about this glitch, but of course in the English versions and not too much research was going on. (I know Tombstoner documented some oddities while using the Cooltrainer move, however stated in SG's wiki article that technically wasn't a SG move...) I've documented the effects and PP of each SG move found in the German equivalent of Blue version. The most interesting forms are hB4, hB5, hB7, and hB8. I'm going to further research these moves as they cause the most interesting effects IMO, but until then here is the complete list of SG moves! This will also give you a sense of what moves cause damage to your file or if it's harmless. (Note that the hex values I listed above can cause damage to the save file while every other equilvalent either crashes the game, freezes the game, or simply acts like a legit move...)
Code: [Select]
==Superglitch Blau research==
Use code 01xx78D1 to change your first Pokemon's first move.

Attack ID: AC
Effect In Battle:If it hits the opponent, it plays Sing's animation.
PP: 30
Harmless or Harmful?: Harmless

Attack ID: AD
Effect in Battle: unknown, accuracy is poor but it does prevent the player from pressing b
to escape the party pokemon screen in battle and in the overworld... to fix it look at the stats
of a Pokemon...
PP: 8? (cloaked by type shows up as 8 in status screen...)
Harmless or Harmful?: Harmless but a bit annoying...

Attack ID: AE
Effect in battle: causes graphical glitches, freezes game
pp: 15
harmless or harmful?: harmless, but causes a game freeze after looking at the stats of the Pokemon
that knows it...

Attack ID: AF
Effect in battle: causes a crash
pp: Unknown (can't view it without the game crashing...)
harmless or harmful?: harmless, causes a crash while trying to view Pokemon's move list in overworld...

Attack ID: B0
Effect in battle: game freezes
pp: 15
harmless or harmful?: harmless, freezes game if viewed in overworld...

Attack ID: B1
effect in battle: crashes game
pp: Unknown
harmless or harmful?: harmless, crashes game in overworld though...

Attack ID: B2
effect in battle: freezes game
pp: Unknown
harmless or harmful?: harmless but crashes the game...

Attack ID: B3
effect in battle: freezes game
pp: unknown
harmless or harmful?: harmless but crashes the game most of the time... (can sometimes be viewed in
status screen)

Attack ID: B4 (seems to act like a HM move as there is a blank spot where a HM move would appear via
selecting the Pokemon with the move...)
This glitch move has a valid type Dragon!
effect in battle: causes a TMTRAINER like effect filling the screen with random vram glitchyness
and immediately after the message "Enemy[pkmn] is fast asleep!" is displayed, the game hangs however
the text TMTRAINER isn't in this version of course instead the player's name is displayed alongside
tiles from the map. We'll dub the german equilvalent Player's name effect! :V
pp:12
harmless or harmful?: harmful if used in battle since it will cause the Player's name effect, in the
overworld it acts like surf, meaning if you have koga's badge you can use this as a substitute! xD

Attack ID: B5
effect in battle: causes Player's name effect
pp:Unknown
harmless or harmful?: harmful since it changes your name.
It also redraws the map's tiles slightly to the left of the player, but can easily be avoided if the player
takes a step up, then left.
This could possibly get you stuck in a area, but this will need to be tested in different maps
of course... This glitch move also change's your Pokemon's name to yours with random pixes from
the VRAM...

Attack ID: B6
effect in battle: same as B5
PP:Unknown
Harmless or Harmful?: harmful, also trying to view it in the Pokemon's move list will make the game
freeze before even showing it's move list.

Attack ID: B7
This one also has a valid type, poison!
Effect In Battle: changes Player's name, if it does hit the opponent though it plays Waterfall's
animation... However it will prevent you from escaping and if you do catch the enemy Pokemon it will
change into a Parasect nulling out the Player's name effect! It should also be known that the type
of attack tends to vary, the first time I used the move it acted like waterfall however the second time
in a different battle it acted like double edge or take down but without the animation...
(It was a move that causes recoil damage...) It may randomly effect your pokemon giving it a random
status change as well, oddly enough if your Pokemon is effected the opponent Pokemon changes to a Hitmonchan.
PP:29
Harmless or Harmful?: The Player's name doesn't change if you either run after
using the super glitch move or capture the opponent afterwards. If another attack is used instead,
the game will trigger the Player's name effect. However if your Pokemon gets a
random status change alongside your opponent,
the game will hang immediately after the battle regardless of what you do. Also it causes the death trainer
glitch, even if your name hasn't been changed. It's best not to mess with this if you want to keep your
battery save...

Attack ID: B8
effect in battle: This move tends to be random on what effect happens. It can do normal damage without triggering
the Player's name effect while causing minor graphical glitches,
it can miss and just cause graphical glitches, or it can change the player's name.
If you scroll down to use a different move and scroll back up to the
super glitch move it's type will change from normal to a glitched type... It may also put your Pokemon
to sleep as well as the opponent Pokemon in some cases... xD
pp:unknown
harmless or harmful?: It will change the player's name to random tiles, so it will destroy your save file!

Attack ID: B9
effect in battle: Seems to be similar to hex B7
pp:unknown
harmless or harmful?: See Hex B7

Attack ID: BA
effect in battle: crashes game
pp:15
harmless or harmful?: harmless, but crashes game...

Attack ID: BB
effect in battle: Triggers Player's Name glitch.
pp:3
harmless or harmful?: harmful

Attack ID: BC
effect in battle: Causes a text box to appear, but shows nothing but random tiles. It gets stuck
in an endless loop as well, causing the player to reset their game...
pp:8
harmless or harmful?: harmless but annoying...

Attack ID: BD
effect in battle: crashes game
pp:25
harmless or harmful?: harmless but useless...

Attack ID: BE
Type:Flying
effect in battle: Plays fly animation, can crash the game at any random time.
pp:25
harmless or harmful?: harmless but very useless

Attack ID: BF
Type: Water
effect in battle: Can crash game sometimes, misses or does damage to the opponent.
(It's attacking animation is similar to bite but plays half of tail whip's sfx alongside the animation)
pp:10
harmless or harmful?: harmless

Attack ID: C0
effect in battle: crashes game
pp:10
harmless or harmful?: harmless

Attack ID: C1
effect in battle: crashes game
pp:25
harmless or harmful?: harmless

Attack ID: C2
effect in battle: It's accuracy is low but it's basically fire punch.
pp:50
harmless or harmful?: harmless

Attack ID: C3
effect in battle: Plays Slam's animation twice, lowers the opponent's speed.
pp:6
harmless or harmful?: harmless
B7 seems to keep changing each time I go to test it out, I am going to see how many different effects I can get so this can change at anytime.

Emulation & ROM Hacking / Pocket Monsters Midori Hacking Guide
« on: January 04, 2013, 12:54:54 am »
So when I get bored with documenting glitches I tend to hack. However usually i'm hacking Sonic 2 8-bit, but I started documenting offsets in Midori version, seeing how it's my favorite Gen 1 game. (Green happens to be my favorite color. :P) This is a very small list, it's late and I'm tired. Though i'll continue digging through the ROM later, it seems this game hasn't been documented that much. (But of course the data has been shifted in RBY compared to G/R so it doesn't surprise me this game hasn't been touched much.) Here's the small guide I have so far, perhaps it'll get more people to hack Green and Red. :)
Code: [Select]
Midori Hacking Guide
Written By Raven Freak
*Note: You'll need basic knowledge of hex editing to understand this guide. You'll also need a Hex editor and a copy
of Pocket Monsters Midori (NOT the translated version, as I didn't check that hack.)*
Pokemon Base Stats Offset starts at $38000.
Moltres Event data is located at offset $526CE
Mewtwo's event data is located at offset $46C51
Each event offset contains this data:
[Overworld Sprite Index Number][Y][X][Animation (if any)][Direction sprite is facing][TextStringNr][PkmnNr][Lvl]
Looking at Mewtwo's data in a hex editor looks like this:
05 0E 09 FF D0 41 83 46
05 is the overworld sprite index number (Rhydon looking sprite in this case), 0E, 09 are the sprite's coordinates in the map,
FF is the animation number (which is null since it doesn't have any animations signed to it), D0 is the direction the sprite is facing
(in this case forward d1, backwards d2: left, d3: right), next is the text string number, which is 41,
then it's Mewtwo's id number, and finally it's level which equals out to be 70 once $46 is converted from hex to decimal.
This will at least allow someone to make a tiny hack at the moment. Now you can catch a level 255 Mewtwo without a gameshark/using glitches if you change that last byte to $FF. :V

Wiki Discussion / Suggestions Topic
« on: January 02, 2013, 09:41:54 pm »
Forgive me if there is a topic to post suggestions about the wiki, but I didn't see such a thing. :P Anywho i've noticed the "Help" page is pretty much blank. I think there should be some content on this page as new wiki editors probably would want some sort of guide to help them. Also if anyone else has suggestions go ahead and post it here rather than starting a new topic. (As any project could use some great suggestions from time to time. ;)) And if there is another thread I overlooked please merge this topic with that one. :V Also could we add pages for each member group? I don't want to start adding pages that might not be suitable for the wiki. :V

Generation I Glitch Discussion / Researching my Silph Co. PC Glitch
« on: August 27, 2012, 03:41:04 pm »
So remember that glitch I posted about back in 2009 or so? (It's this one incase you forgot:
http://glitchcity.info/wiki/index.php/Silph_Co._PC_Glitch) Well i've decided to research it, to see what Pokemon triggers different tiles and such. Here's my research, I have made it up to Blastoise (ID 1C) for now, but i'm going to finish this list ASAP. My research also includes a theory, which may or may not be correct. Please tell me if it isn't, I haven't downloaded a disassembly yet though I plan on to figure out how and why this happens. Anywho on to my notes. :D
Code: [Select]
This is my research on the silph co. glitch city glitch I discovered when I was 13 years old. (Yes seriously, I discovered
it back when Glitch City was first created... but I didn't have a computer. My grandma did, if only I knew about emulators
back then...) First off we know that Pidgey can trigger an area that you're capable of exploring a tad bit
without the use of a cheating device. Each Pokemon's ID number determines which tiles load,
and some share the same tiles. This is a theory but I believe is true, Silph Co. is coded like a dugeon,
because you can use an escape rope or dig to get out of the building, as opposed to other buildings such as Pokemon Tower.
This is most likely the cause of the glitch, because even if you do this on the invisible PC in the building in Celadon,
it has the same effects as checking it in a pokemon center or the fossil lab on Cinnnabar.
It simply does nothing. It should also be noted that some species enable the same glitched tiles.

I disassembled both Red and Japanese Yellow, but I can't assemble a ROM without a compiler of some sort. I've searched google, and only found command line programs. :\ Can anyone help? I always get confused on how to open a file using a command line program. :V

Possibly the best Sega Genesis/Megadrive/Sega CD/Mega CD/32x emulator is the Gens Plus. If anyone is looking for a Genesis emulator, Gens Plus is the best one to download. Just incase if anyone was wondering...
