Pokémon Discussion / LUCARIO

I saw this amusing shot in Lucario and the Mystery of Mew and felt compelled to share it with everyone.
Pokémon Discussion / Need some help in Pokemon Crystal
« on: December 30, 2009, 01:08:44 pm »
So I arrived at the Pokemon League after a day or two of playing, and I feel like I'm missing something. My team is all at level 37 (save for Suicune, which I haven't gotten around to training yet.) The E4 are obviously around level 50. As far as I can tell, the closest thing to the Pokenav/Vs Seeker in this game is the Pokegear, and nobody wants to battle me. I've never played Crystal before, so I don't know what to do. Help?
Debate Wars / I say we sack them all

As a US citizen, I am disappointed in Congress. All parties are at fault. The Republican party, which is supposedly conservative (the Bush administration's policies do not reflect this), will not compromise. On the other hand, the liberal Democrats can't even make a decision within their own party. Senator Joe Lieberman, an independent, has managed to f**k up the healthcare process simply because people follow him because he can't decide which party to support. On a smaller scale, California still hasn't been able to fix the budget problems, and as a result my counselor at school was laid off and class sizes are larger than ever. I may not be a political analyst or even a high school graduate, but even I can see that this isn't how the government is supposed to work. Perhaps this is a reflection of US citizens, but the people we have elected to represent the various states act like children. I say that we should get rid of the current representatives, since they are obviously incompetent.

General Discussion / If you think your morning was bad....
« on: September 23, 2009, 04:43:58 pm »
Today some crackhead went roaring down Highway 101 (the main artery of my hometown) at 80 miles per hour on the wrong side of the road, hitting a vehicle and killing at least one person. As a result, my morning looked like this:

7:00 Wake up.
8:01 Arrive at bus stop.
8:11 Call bus company to see where the hell my bus is.
8:14 Bus company responds, saying that the northbound Highway 101 is shut down.
8:26 The bus finally arrives. The school bell rings in eight minutes. Normal time of arrival is fifteen minutes after departure.
8:26-10:19 (that's a bit less than two hours) Spent on a large, noisy, poorly ventilated school bus with only an antisocial bus driver and an extremely hyper seventh grader for company. To pass the time I read (which resulted in motion sickness), stared out the window, and wrote down what was going on using Flipnote Studio (an animation app for my DSi), and commented to nobody in particular about what classes I was missing.
10:19 I finally arrive at school towards the beginning of third period, having missed all of the study time given right before my History test. I hope that I didn't fail it.

So if you think you've had a bad morning, I don't think that it could ever top this. Today was even worse than a similar occurrence last year, when some crazy dude with a gun chained himself to an overpass over the 101, causing a complete backup - but not total gridlock like today.
Polls / HG/SS Starters?

I'm curious to see what starters people like. Personally I'm getting Cyndaquil, like I always do when faced with this choice.
Art / Random Sprite Shop. By Wa.
« on: September 12, 2009, 04:58:25 pm »
I got bored, so I have decided to open a sprite shop (not that there aren't tons already.)

What I can do:

- Fusions (preferably, they're what I'm best at)
- Fusion/Recolors (Fusion where the components match one color pallet)
- Recolors (I'll do them, but I don't really like them)
- Armor (This can only be done on a case-by-case basis. Dragon types and Ubers work the best.)
- I can also scratch some basic details onto a sprite (hence the armoring ability).

My main request is that you be specific. If you want armor, is it metallic or matte? Which generation or game sprite(s) do you want? (please, no Gen II or I.) What is the base of your fusion? If you want to be surprised, say so. Otherwise, I'll do my best. Also, I have no life, so they'll get done pretty quickly.

And here is some previous work:
Generation IV Glitch Discussion / Finally, some blessed silence
« on: September 07, 2009, 06:16:08 pm »
I was wandering about on Route 214 in my Diamond version when I discovered an audio glitch which temporarily removes the background music for that route. Here are some simple steps:

1. Make sure that you have a bike and can access Sendoff Spring.
2. Go to Veilstone City.
3. Go south to Route 214.
4. Hop on your bike.
5. Go to Sendoff Spring (not just the Spring Path).
6. Return to an eerily quiet Route 214.

I would post a video, but since Youtube won't accept Linux video formats I can't upload one (even if I could it would be rather grainy.) Any ideas as to what causes this?
Emulation & ROM Hacking / My gameshark is bizarre.
« on: May 18, 2009, 09:04:19 pm »
While randomly using my Gameshark on my Pokemon Ruby, I discovered that the "Use Mod Shop" code was malfunctioning. When the proper button combination is pressed, it has the same effect as talking to the Link Cable Colosseum clerk. This allows any forced movement (i.e. the potion speech in Oldale) to be reset. Using this, I walked right past Birch. Currently I am attempting to stabilize my ?????. It functions like a Bulbasaur with 5 for all stats exempting HP, which is 25. Also, it's shiny with the "1st pokemon max stats" code. This is actually quite useful because I cannot find a working, 12 digit WTW code.  Do other people have the same experiences with their Gamesharks, or did I just get a really crappy one?
I just saw it, and I thought it was pretty good, despite the fact that I have seen about 4 original Star Trek episodes. All the other Star Trek movies I have seen were absolutely foul, so I wanted to put it out to see if others liked it too.
General Discussion / Fire ravages Santa Barbara
« on: May 06, 2009, 05:59:38 pm »
You know something serious is going on when you look outside the local grocery store and find billowing smoke in a range of hues, from pale yellow to tuscan red to a sinister greyish purple.
The Jesusita fire started Tuesday, May 5, at about 2 pm. Rainfall far below average, strong sundowner winds and temperatures hovering around 100 degrees have made this fire very difficult to contain. Many in the area have been evacuated. Much of Santa Barbara has lost power.
While this area is prone to vicious wildfires every 30 years due to the arid climate (it rains about 8 times a year) and annual buildup of dry brush, the past 2 or 3 years have been blazing, with a total of 4 (that's right, 4) wildfires, testing resources to the limit. The recent "Tea" Fire was even harder to fight because of 2 other blazes in Southern California. Perhaps this is a result of global warming, or perhaps we're just having a bad stint.
The school I attend is barely outside the evacuation warning area; in fact, the street that accesses it is closed barely a few hundred feet down. Many students living in the vicinity of the fire are absent, a testament to the consequences of wildfires. PE was canceled for several reasons, including air quality and the soaring temperatures. Because of the rapid spread of this fire, I fear that the school will be closed.
Even though life is nice in sunny California, fires are some of the many hazards that Californians have to withstand. It's worth it, though.

Pokémon Discussion / Who keeps sending me PAR?
« on: April 29, 2009, 07:59:30 pm »
This may not still be going on, but in the GTS in D/P, a Mew under level 9 was constantly asked for. The Mew obtained at the September Toys R Us event a few years ago was level 10, so therefore the aforementioned Mew is impossible to achieve without a cheating device. As many people did, I put up a Level 100 (cloned in Emerald, of course) and asked for a Mew, 9 and under. I received a shiny Mew, level 1, named PAR. Sadly, it was untradable (which begs the question of how I got it in the first place). I put up another Level 100, hoping for a different Mew. I got PAR again, identical to the first.

Who is sending PAR?

I put this in Debate Wars because it is too sensitive for General Discussion. So, I repeat:
