Oh whoops. I didn't look at the previous page ^^;

In that case there's only one other way I can think of: Have the Rocket NPC on Nugget Bridge disappear through the Mew Glitch. For that you'd have to figure out what that NPC's "disappearing object number" is, start the Mew Glitch on a map with that many objects -1, start the Mew Glitch there, head to Nugget Bridge, lose to one of the trainers, then make sure not to cross through any maps with more disappearing objects than the number you want.

So...I suppose it comes down to the number of disappearing objects on Route 24 and which one the Rocket is.

If there is a way to obtain a "Rival's effect"/"Jack effect" (walk through walls item) early such as "o" (hex:94) before Nugget Bridge, that could possibly be used to bypass the Nugget Rocket and the Rocket blocking the Dig TM NPC's house. It could also be used to bypass the Rocket blocking Fuchsia City's gym (though you might need to Teleport or Dig away after), also eliminating the need to battle Pokémon Tower's Jessie & James.

Yellow version speedruns get item underflow by setting up Trainer-Fly in Viridian Forest, having Misty be the most recent trainer battle and then blacking out back to Pewter to get the encounter. If Missingno. doesn't crash, what you can do is duplicate a Potion, use two of them, then capture Missingno. to duplicate them again. 255 Potions. Now you just need the right RAM values for Jack's item.

While I was doing this I made the discovery that you can hard reset whenever you get a trainer until it gives you a glitch pokemon with that hex.

That part is new to me, what did you do to make that happen exactly?

I haven't tested it but I believe the game waits until you're off the ledge before doing a poison check.

The timing for that would be hell to pull off anyhow, so I recommend doing it the Museum Guy way if that's possible. You only have to really set that up one time, then you can use it again and again.

That stinks. I really wanted to make a speedrun of the game that only gets 6 badges and never fights any Rockets, and that's very much possible with lots of Brock Through Walls abuse, but I wanted to use some of the tricks that don't often get used. It wouldn't be that serious a speedrun, but I'm a casual player in that field anyhow :( Thanks anyways though, ZZAZZ.

Here they are in the Pokéred disassembly :
https://github.com/pret/pokered/blob/6057f285ad1a930315d1a45fa3d1aa08efe6801d/wram.asm#L2619
and the entry I just added to Datacrystal :
http://datacrystal.romhacking.net/wiki/Pok%C3%A9mon_Red/Blue:RAM_map#Event_Flags

I'm currently researching what does each flag control.
This routine seems to be a good one to target.

Thanks, but what I'm looking for is a way to trigger a Mew Glitch encounter on a map with only two disappearing NPCs. I figured the only way to accomplish that is a Hooked Dragonite in Pewter City but that just freezes the game, it seems.

EDIT: I know you could just write bytes into RAM with 8F but I prefer to avoid that :P

Couldn't you do the Q Trick by depositing from your party rather than withdrawing from a box?

As for the daycare I think it functions in the same way a box would so you probably couldn't withdraw level 1 Pokémon from him.

Hey ZZAZZ, I noticed in your video you got the guard in front of Saffron Gym to disappear, could you tell how you did that? I don't know where in RAM the disappearing NPC list is ^^;

EDIT: I think I can figure this out if I knew what all the maps with only 2 vanishing objects were.

EDIT2: ...THE HOOKED DRAGONITE.

Popplio is the new Oshawott. Ugly abomination that needs to be euthanized.

I guarantee you'll do a 180 when the evolutions and hidden abilities get revealed just like everyone did with every other starter.

What penalties may be incurred if you are found to be liable for breach of guarantee?

I will be forced to actually choose the grass starter, which no self-respecting trainer ever does :P

Wait is Arcanine effected by experience underflow? I thought it was just certain 3-stage evolution lines.

Arcanine is not a Pokémon from the medium-slow experience group. Therefore, the Experience Underflow Glitch will only work on him if you catch any eligible Pokémon at level 1, then change its ID by either using Super Glitch corruption or arbitrary code execution to make him an Arcanine before doing the glitch  :D

Now THAT is VERY interesting. Can...can the Q Trick do this?

EDIT: Actually, if you have a Pokémon with a special stat of 20, you can proc a level 1 Arcanine to appear via trainer escape glitch + cable club escape glitch then using growl 6 times on it.  Catching the level 1 Arcanine then defeating a level 2 pidgey or similar will cause the Arcanine to jump to level 100.  At level 100, the Arcanine has an effective special stat of 184 if used in the trainer escape + cable club escape glitch -- the special stat needed for a Ghost MissingNo. to appear.

(Effective meaning if used on the rival battle near Viridian or the trainer on Route 3 with a Jigglypuff whose Pokémon both have spd/spc DVs of 88 and no Stat EXP)

Also, with this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TYNqXzTKzcw and a little research it should be really simple to run Gen 1 without fighting a Rocket if the Rocket in front of Saffron Gym is made to vanish with the Mew Glitch. Would need to research what precise steps to take, however.

Hexes B5, B6, and B7 don't crash the games. These correspond to 181, 182, and 183

If you're talking about the Ghost/Skeleton forms that's actually hexes B6, B7, and B8 (182~184) unless B5 also does not crash which in theory it should.

Have you shown Brock Through Walls yet? If that's not an option you could show Item Underflow and hope the RAM gives you one of the drinks, it's how I got the Surfboard :D

Oh my god did I just contribute to finding another use for the Mew Glitch I'm so happy

Thanks, ZZAZZ, you're incredible :D

That explains why the Snorlax blocking Route 16 didn't disappear when Twitch Plays Pokemon did the Jack-fly trick (John-fly, actually) on Route 17 recently!

They got Jack's item?? And did that?? How in the world?
