Generation I Glitch Discussion / Re: "ZZAZZ glitch"?
« on: March 25, 2008, 04:18:03 pm »
Apoligies for the double post, but I have some more reporting to do.

First, I have six Pokemon on my team. I think the "ending" code for of my party must've been overwritten, and that was why I couldn't look at the team, or switch Pokemon. However, I could look at their stats via PC (Go to Deposit, selet member, and it will ask if you want to deposit, look at stats, or cancel) Here's what I found with HEX 255.

MOLE the Dugtrio - 153 Bulbasaur - Explosion Explosion RockSlide Explosion

CHARGE the Jolteon - 153 Starmie (wtf?) named CHARGD- status BRN - E33/464 (Half-drained Hp bar) - Explosion Explsion Double Kick Explosion

TIDE the Vaporeon - Lv 87 Vaporeon (level unchanged) -extended HP bar 15/371- 7428455 to Lv 88 -Explosion Surf Explosion Explosion

AEROD the Aerodactyl (creative, no? :P) - Lv 0 Bulbasaur - Extended HP bar, 21/10 HP - status PSN - 6725425 to Lv 1 - Explosion Fly Explosion Explosion

AERIS the Moltres - Lv 26 Bulbasaur - PSN - Extended HP bar  21/10 HP- 6739443 to Lv 27 - Explosion Double Edge Explosion Explosion

Mewtwo - Game Crash

I tried this a few more times. It seems the game can't handle Mewtwo being anywhere but the first slot, since whenever I try to check its stats otherwisw the game spazzes. Also, the Cancel button becomes either a glitchy mess of TM trainer pixels, or takes on the last name of the Pokemon before it. However, I was not able to deposit or withdraw the cancel button, because it still acted like a Cancel button when I clicked on it. Also the stats are glitched as well, such as a Pokemon having (Pokeball symbol) 71 Attack, for example. The OT names would also get ZZAZZed, even if they were traded Pokemon, though there was one odd time where one name only got partly ZZAZZed (SAKURA became ZZKURA). I also switch around the party Pokemon. Seems whatever Pokemon's in the second slot becomes a Starmie.

After one session I try to use a Full Heal on the party. White out.

Another thing I noticed is that, just like with M and MissingNo, if you look at a (somewhat) stable Pokemon's stats, it fixes the graphics. This also allows me to not crash after a battle, so that my Mole the Bulbasaur can become an Ivysaur without causing a white-out. I start fighting with the now-Lv.100 Ivysaur. I try to switch Pokemon to see if it's stablized my party, white out. Bleh...guess I have to change the number of Pokemon in my party before stats if I don't want the game to crash. What's a good number of Pokemon to have?

You have to have less than 6 Pokemon in your team in order to avoid crashes after using the ZZAZZ glitch. Among other things, the ZZAZZ glitch can add extra, glitched, unusable Pokemon to your team. More than 6 Pokemon = crash and burn. At least, I think that's how it works; all I know is that when I discovered the glitch, I figured out that having less than 6 Pokemon in your team prevents crashes, and that an extra Pokemon can appear in the 6th slot but is unselectable.

I know, I've been completely out of the glitch researching scene for over a year now, but I just couldn't stand to see you guys go through 12 pages worth of posts researching stuff that I had already figured out 2 years ago, and that I could have told you if you'd asked me. :P Back in early '05, in the heyday of the Old GC, I discovered the ZZAZZ Glitch and figured out pretty much everything that everyone in this thread has painstakingly discovered on their own. My research on it was lost when the Old GC site went down. If you can find a way to prevent ZZAZZ from deleting your game then kudos to you, but I don't think it's possible. I don't see the point to it anyway; originally, I though ZZAZZ would be a way to give a Venusaur any attack, but then I discovered the Q Glitch, which made this method obsolete.

What, you're not putting me in this game? :P If this game actually gets finished, maybe I could be a "hidden rival" kind of character, like Red in G/S/C or Steven in Emerald. The story could be that my character was formerly one of the highest-ranking members of (whatever the good guys team in this game is; I haven't read through the 20-page story thread yet) and then mysteriously left, but still appears to help them occasionally. In fact, my character could even appear at random times to help in the plot, like Steven does in R/S/E, without ever revealing his true power.

As for my Pokemon, if it's just R/B/Y and Glitches, and no Q Glitch, and (from what I've seen this is true) 4th-gen moves are allowed, my team would be:

Sunny Day
Sleep Powder

h Poke:
Night Shade
Shadow Ball (Don't know how future-gen TMs will work on Glitches; I assume this will be allowed.)

Nidoking (Evolved from LM4):
Poison Jab

Female Symbol glitch:
Hydro Pump

Thunder Wave
Dragon Dance

Sky Attack

And THIS is why I have a beef with GCL. TWELVE PAGES of nonsense, and it is not only allowed but encouraged by the moderator staff who should be doing something about it. If I was still an admin, I would have locked this thread a long time ago, but it wouldn't have mattered because half of the people posting here have mod powers!

I'm sorry to be hypocritical by adding to this mess of spam, but in a previous conversation Abwayax wanted a concrete example of what was wrong with GCL, and this is a perfect one. Nothing more needs to be said, really.

Woah. When you told me on the S91 forums that you were going to do some advertising for me, I didn't think it would be anything like this. Thanks a bunch--this will definitely increase my site's visitor count. It's good to know that my friends from GCL still appreciate me enough to do things like this. :)

Okay, I did overreact. I suppose it's just that, every time I pop in on GCL to see what everyone is doing, it seems you're always being sarcastic/critical to people or making fun of someone or something. That's just the image that I built up in my mind over the months. It's refreshing to see you being civil about this, though. I really shouldn't have reacted like that.

Well, I suppose I've only said vague things about the community because, had I said anything specific, it would only restart old arguments. It's obvious that you and I have different standards, and there's not much that can be done about that. If everyone on GCL accepts what I see as problems--the swearing and pervertedness, the fact that a lot of threads degenerate into people arguing about technicalities in the rules, and the freedom of people to "take potshots" at others, as you call it, without penalty--and if they aren't bothered by it, then I suppose I just don't belong here and any advice that I have would be moot.

So, once again, I have to kick myself for jumping to conclusions and holding grudges. I'm really bad about that anymore... But now you know what I think of GCL, and why I wanted to leave. Now, if you want to call me kiddy or immature or some kind of wacked-out religious nutcase, as I've been thinking you would for months now, go right ahead.

You mean like Space Ace? Actually, my next big game for SECTOR91, Project Gamma, will be an applet. It's going to be awesome; it'll have Flash-like vector graphics and everything. Check back in about two weeks and I'll have a demo version up. The final version may even have multiplayer...

(What happened to Project Beta, you ask? Well, not every project makes it past the planning stages. But that one may not be completely dead...)

You know, I sort of think everyone here has. :P Well, anyway, I suppose I've gone completely off-topic here. What do you think of SECTOR91?

It's nice to see that you consider that an option, but I'm not sure if it would even work. (And most likely Abwayax would yell at you about it when he returns from hiatus.) Regardless, if you're thinking that would make me become an active member again, probably not. The original reason that I stated for my leaving still stands: I've lost interest in glitch research, and really in Pok?mon in general.

How very... cryptic. I'm not quite sure what you were referring to by that.

So, for what is hopefully the really, REALLY last time, ACE91 signing off.

But you come on alot, you just don't admit it.
Yeah, I do. Dang auto-login... :P I show up from time to time to see what's going on here, but I'm not really a part of the community anymore.
You don't have to submit glitches, hardly anyone does anymore, especially admins. :P
Well, that's beside the point. I stopped doing that a while before I left, actually. The real problem is that I have no reason to be a part of the forum community anymore, and frankly it's not the kind of community that I want to be a part of.

I suppose I should have said this the first time, but the loss of interest in glitch research was only half the reason I left. The real reason was that.. well... something just changed in the GCL community, and I didn't like it. Abwayax is a complete and total jerk, nobody gives a care about the forum rules or even common decency anymore, and the community in general has just gone down the gutter. I don't know what happened, maybe everyone just grew up, and not in a good way. But after this started happening, I slowly started to realize that GCL wasn't the kind of place that I wanted to be associated with. So... I left. And that's the story behind my resignation.

Now I suppose I just sit and wait for whatever flak I take from Abwayax for saying this...

You thought I'd never do it, didn't you? I said I'd make my own website, and most of you probably laughed it off and thought it was a lost cause. BUT YOU WERE WRONG.

And now, after years of planning that went into something... admittedly pretty mediocre... I have finally created my own website from which to distribute my homemade Java games. Say hello to!

Before you ask, THE BATTLE SIMULATOR SOURCE CODE IS NOT ON THIS SITE. It's a funny story about that, actually... You can read more about that on the game page for it.

So, as you probably have noticed (I'm talking to YOU, Abwayax) I didn't really leave GCL. I poked in from time to time to see how the site was going, and I was waiting for the right time to reveal this project. Right now probably wasn't that right time, but I revealed it anyway. :P But now, my membership at GCL is truly over. If you want to talk to me, you can join the SECTOR91 Forums. I have my own website to run now, so I have no business being here anymore, except maybe to check on this thread.

SECTOR91 may not be impressive now, but I have bigger and better games in the works. However, it will ultimately be the community that will help make SECTOR91 a success. The official SECTOR91 game projects (all of which are named "Project (insert Greek letter here)") will be distributed under an open-source license, and anyone who wants to help improve them (or to hack and modify them) can. Oh, and JOIN THE FORUMS! Seriously!

So, for what is hopefully the really, REALLY last time, ACE91 signing off.
Site Announcements / Re: NSider is gone.
« on: October 02, 2007, 11:53:32 am »
Well, if there's anything that could bring me back to post again, this is it. I just found out today that NSider was gone. Gone. How could they do this to us? (By us, of course, I mean the members of NSider, not you guys.) I suppose it had been dying for a while after Andy killed the RPG board, but I just never expected it to end like this.

NSider was where I got my start; it was the first forum that I ever joined, and I was an active member for years. I had over 3000 posts there; and suddenly, with a singe anticlimactic administrative action, it's all gone. All my memories at NSider. All of my early history on the Internet. Everything. When the first two Glitch City sites died, it wasn't that big of a deal to me because most of my old posts, glitch documentaries, fanfics, etc. were on NSider, and even though I didn't go there often, I could still go there to look through my old stuff and remember. And most of my friends were there too, although a lot of them left after the RPG board died.

NOA_ANDY and the others have no idea how much they destroyed with such a seemingly careless action. All of the fanfics I loved to read, all of the comics and RPGs and four years' worth of some of the best and funniest discussion between gaming fans that I've ever had the honor to be a part of, all gone in an instant, replaced with a friendly-looking administrative message that gives no indication of the history that was unceremoniously bulldozed in its place.

And all for marketing. Don't think I don't know why NSider started to die two years ago; why the RPG board and Moot Trivia and Camp Hyrule and everything I loved about it vanished, one after another, to be replaced with more marketing propaganda. Now they apparently decided that the forums themselves were a waste of time, and that they should all be destroyed to make room for more marketing! Nintendo doesn't give a crap about their fans anymore! I used to think they were better than that.

But this only solidifies my hatred for big business. No matter how much they seem to care about fans and community and fun--which should be the point of gaming in the first place--it all comes down to making more money off of n00bs who can't tell a good game from the crud that makes up 90% of the Wii's current software titles. One of these days I'm going to go into the indie game-making business, and I'm going to make sure I never abuse my fans like that. Never. You can hold me to that statement.

But I suppose everything has to die sometime. NSider is dead, GCL is dying (as reluctant as you guys are to admit it, it's true) and one era of the internet gaming community is ending, at least in my eyes. Very soon I'll make my own website, where I distribute my own games, and I will be sure to NEVER do such a disservice to my forum community there, if it can be at all prevented.

Ace out.
Site Announcements / My Official Resignation from GCL
« on: July 16, 2007, 12:22:06 pm »
ACE91 here, for probably the last time. As most of you know, I was once one of GCL's most active members, and probably the most productive article writer next to Abwayax himself. But lately, I've been away from GCL for long periods of time, and I haven't written any new articles in who-knows-how-long. For the last few months I've been effectively retired from my duties as GCL Admin, but today I'm making it official.

I hereby resign from my position as GCL Admin. Most chances you won't ever see me around here again, and on the off chance that you do, I'll only be here as an ordinary member. My retirement is for various reasons, partially because I'm not very pleased with where this forum and its staff are going (and no, I won't give names or reasons, nor will I answer questions about why I think this), but mostly because I've moved on to bigger and better things. I have my own projects and plans now, which may or may not include my own website, and frankly I've gotten somewhat bored with GCL.

I've had a great time here for the years that I've been an active member of this community, and I've learned a lot by being a part of GCL. I've made a lot of great friends here too, and I think that we've built something great together. But now that we've scoured every kilobyte of our favorite classic Pokemon games and found almost every glitch that there is to find, my job here is done. There's just not enough left to find anymore, and even if there was, I'm not sure that I'd still be as enthusiastic to find it.

So now, with my glitch researching days long over, I will vanish into the obscurity from whence I came. Don't miss me too much. :P

"And with that, POW! I'm gone!"

By the way, if you need some in-depth technical info on Pok?mon game mechanics, check out this site. It helped me a lot with my Battle Simulator.
