General Discussion / Raven Freak Teleporting Away
« on: August 01, 2020, 10:37:30 am »
Why not flying away you ask? Because I'm obsessed with Raven from Teen Titans, and well she can sort of teleport. :P Anyways I first joined this awesome community way back in late 2006. I was a complete n00b that probably drove the staff mad, and I know I was very cringy back then. Then I forgot my log in details, made multiple accounts (still feel odd about that btw), finally got back in the community and used this account. I know I wasn't too active here, and there were times where I would maybe log in once or twice throughout the years but this was the first forum I ever joined. I am sad to see it close, but I'm also happy to be helping out with the new site and community. See you all over at the new discord/new site if you're not there yet! RIP GCL, I'll never forget the time I posted on each Glitch Mon entry on the old site, or talk about the say box being broken, etc.

I would have took over ownership of this place if I had to... I know I haven't been as active lately but part of that was because nothing terribly interesting has happened for quite a long time and I kinda grew out of the more immature stage in my life where I enjoyed fooling around in the general discussion boards. Also I'm not very good with leader ship roles.... I'm kind of too lax and a bit of a slacker.
I've been talking with a few people in the new discord server about setting up a new wiki. No one has purchased hosting yet, but once we figure stuff out you're welcome to help us out! Also you should be able to get your wiki contributor role in the discord server too since I think they do have that as a role if I remember correctly.

It really sucks that GCL is closing. I'm going to miss this place, as this was the first forum I ever joined. :( At least a new community will hopefully come rise from the ashes of GCL.

General Discussion / Re: The Member's Guide to Topiclessness

I am out of work again this week. Back at the end of March, I was out for two weeks. I work again next week, but for only two days since my birthday is next Wednesday. (I'm going to be 30...) After that, I'm off again for two more weeks. Some businesses have already opened yesterday here in my state, but not every place is opened yet. My job is considered "essential", since we make freezers and coolers for grocery stores. Hopefully you all have been doing well. :)

Where exactly did you put Gorochu's sprites? Was it in a new bank, or in an already existing bank? Whenever I added a new Pokemon to my Blue/Red hack, I was having issues where the sprite didn't want to show up, because I was placing it's sprite data in a new bank. I crammed my new Pokemon's sprites into Bank 3, and fixed the pointer to load it's sprites in home.asm. If you search for Mew, you can see how the game load's Mew's and the fossil sprites, because they're all located in separate banks than the other Pokemon. Doing this, fixed my issue where Animon's sprites didn't want to load, because I wasn't telling the game properly to load the bank that contained it's sprites. As for your new move "showing up as Thunder Wave" do you mean the animation or the name of the move? I found a tutorial via github that adds Ancientpower, but you can virtually rename the move and change the animation to whatever you want.

Multimedia Discussion / Re: Cartoon Network
« on: March 10, 2020, 06:45:03 pm »
Teen Titans will always be the best cartoon ever aired on Cartoon Network. I also love Steven Universe, and it's a shame that the series ends at the end of the month... :( I also enjoyed the Powerpuff Girls, Courage, and I used to watch Johnny Bravo too and I liked Dexter's Lab.

Video Games Discussion / Re: Game programming video thread

Jon Burton is a really cool guy, his work on various Sega Genesis and Saturn games is very impressive. :) I think it's cool he even went into some detail on how Sonic 1 works, though fun fact the Special Stage scrolling was originally smoother than it is in the final game, but rumor has it Yuji Naka slowed it down because it gave him motion sickness. There's actually a modding guide on Sonic Retro that shows you how to smooth the rotation of the special stage, and a few hacks have used it. Another tidbit I noticed in his recent video, during the tidbit while he's explaining the different VDP layers he mentions that he's not quite sure why there are a few GHZ wall sprites, and that he thought it was there for decoration, but they actually act as a barrier to prevent Sonic from going through the foreground checkered walls. Still it's nice that he's making these videos for those who aren't familiar with game development. :) I came across a Sega Saturn development playlist on Youtube just now. I haven't watched the videos yet, but the Saturn really intrigues me because it's one of the most difficult consoles to develop games on. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_OchOV_WDg&list=PLDlkDiik0KeJjqlX2wjoUuoqoAY80wOtp

Forum Discussion / Re: The reasons why I stepped down
« on: February 27, 2020, 02:11:58 pm »
I can definitely understand #1, I've had the same thing happen to me but in the Sonic community. It wasn't on Youtube, but on another forum I frequently lurk at. I have issues responding to messages in a timely fashion because of my social anxiety. Whenever I do see I got a message I just tell myself that I will respond later and I forget about it. :S It's good to give yourself a break for a bit, it's got to be overwhelming having a very popular Youtube channel. I'm sorry to hear that recent events also stressed you out. :( I'm sure if you wanted to be a Global Moderator, Photon-Phoenix wouldn't mind promoting you. However, it might be best to just be a "Veteran Contributor" for a bit, to help you relax. I don't know what the future has in store for GCL, but I really hope it stays online for years to come.

Video Games Discussion / Re: What's your favorite video game music?

Nothing that I've ever listened to has beat this one (shameless plug, I uploaded it to Youtube before other channels did)

Cort's battle theme sounds epic on it's own, but really fits the part of the game well too. I don't want to give anything away, because anyone who loves RPGs (and I assume most of us here do, we all love Pokemon!) should really give this game a go sometime.

General Discussion / Re: GCL APPRECIATION THREAD
« on: February 07, 2020, 07:07:17 pm »
GCL was the very first forum I ever joined way back in 2006. My forum etiquette wouldn't be what it is now without this place, because if you were around in late December 2006/early 2007 then you probably interacted with my first account on here, and I was a complete cringy noob. This was the very first community that I ever interacted with, and I was amazed to find such a place that talked about my favorite things about Generation 1. When I did have internet for that brief moment in time as a teenager, I would eagerly log on to the forums to see what everyone was talking about. I remember the say box being broken and constantly saying "You've been banned", and how many people were reporting the issue. xD I remember when each glitch Pokemon had their own place to post comments on, and I remember posting a very cringy comment on Female Symbol's page as a joke. x_x I remember when the site looked like this and it brings back so much nostalgia.

I know the recent events have been depressing, and shocking (for me at least) but I'm glad the community is still running to this day and I'm glad I'm still part of it, even if I made multiple accounts throughout the years. :V Forgive me for doing that, I don't know how many times I've apologized for my stupidity in the past. :V

General Discussion / Re: I'm leaving GCLF
« on: February 07, 2020, 06:53:08 pm »
Oh man so many people that have been a relative part of the community have stepped down, left or been banned. :( GCLF was the very first community I joined back in 2006, and it's depressing to see what's been going on as of late. You were a very valuable asset to the GCLF community Evie, and I will miss you. Bart, I will miss you too if you're seriously leaving. Best of luck with your future projects Evie!

It really is. It looked so out of place in a place it wasn't supposed to be, but it just looked like it belonged there you know? :P

Thank you for your help here on GCL throughout the years. You were both a great Moderator and Admin. Sometimes it's better to step away for a bit. If you ever do return, I'm sure the discord and site will still be online.
