Generation II Glitch Discussion / Re: G/S/C glitch discussion

Alright, I figured it most likely wouldn't, but I thought I'd ask just for the sake of thoroughness. :) Thanks!

This is a very minor glitch and perhaps not particularly useful either, but it makes me very curious.

Bulbapedia claims that the Love Ball has an 8x catch rate on Pokemon of the same species, but also the same gender as the Pokemon you currently have sent out in battle. This begs the question: Does this boost also apply to genderless Pokemon? So if I, for example, were to battle an Unown with an Unown of my own, would the Love Ball grant me an 8x multiplier, or is it exclusively male or female Pokemon?

A more fun (and useful) example would be something like Ho-Oh vs. Ho-Oh, but things like Magnemite and Unown are easier to get :p

I assume that genderless Pokemon are, uh... treated as if the gender mechanic doesn't exist at all (well... duh, but I suppose you never know in the older games), but I thought I'd ask anyway, because it seemed really interesting.
Pokémon Discussion / Missing announcer phrases in Pokemon Stadium (Int.)
« on: September 09, 2015, 06:38:54 am »
I don't believe this is a glitch, so I'm posting this in the general Pokemon Discussion section instead. If it turns out it is a glitch, feel free to move it.

So for some reason in this particular version of Pokemon Stadium (the International version, NTSC to be specific) I've been playing, I've noticed two things:

1. Jynx is black instead of purple. I believe I already read somewhere that this is normal for older releases of the game, but the most notable thing is...

2. The announcer is missing at least two phrases. I noticed it immediately because one of them was always really satisfying to hear, and... he never says it in the version of the game I'm playing. In the cartridge I had a long time ago, he did.

The two phrases I'm referring to are "Taken down on the word go!" and "There's been major action already!".

I'mma cite Werster's newly-uploaded Pokemon Stadium speedrun since it's what reminded me. You can hear both of the mentioned phrases at 3:03 to 3:13 or so. There may actually be more as well, but these two are the ones I recognized immediately being missing. Glad there's a video handy, because when I first realized they were missing, I thought I was just going insane or something.

I've never heard anything about this, which is why I'm so curious. It seems to funny to just add phrases in later copies (? I'm assuming later since Jynx's design was changed) of the game. Just for more variety, I guess...?
Pokémon Discussion / Re: Scrapped Pokémon from Gold and Silver

I've seen and heard all of the (available) general information about the Space World G/S prototypes and I'm always interested in knowing more. Man, if I could get my hands on a copy of one of those carts somehow...  :P

Unfortunately, I haven't heard any new information on these prototypes in a long time. Bulbapedia's article has some pictures of the scrapped Pokemon (though I see you've done some work on Bulbapedia before so I bet you've already seen this!)... but the most unfortunate thing, to me, is that there are no screenshots (well... photos, to be more accurate) anywhere of the demo, so no sprites of those starters or anything. :( I've also heard some other pretty wacky info about the demo, such as really strange wild Pokemon (I can't remember the exacts, but DEFINITELY not what you'd encounter that early in the game!) and I also heard the starters were a higher level in the demo... I think 9 or 10? I also recall hearing that "Chikorita" had a move named "Serene" or something as well? Wonder what that could have been!

According to that Bulbapedia page, Kurusu's Pokedex number was also 212, which is... bizarre.

Oh, also, I translated those names in your post, and I got (this is all assuming Google Translate isn't failing me here):
アクア = Aqua
アクエリア = Aquaria
アニモン = Animon (what)
エレキング = Eleking (Elekid? Or maybe Electivire was planned for G/S too? :S)
ハネコ = Haneko (no idea--- oh it's hoppip apparently)
イカリ = Ikari
ペインター = Painter (99% sure this would be Smeargle)
プクー = "Puku" this one is perhaps that Qwilfish prototype
サニー = Sonny (... well, apparently Sunflora was "Sunny", so maybe this is just a translate fail)
ヨロイドリ = Yoroidori

Phew! That was a long post with... actually little substance, I'm sorry, haha, you've probably seen/heard about most of what I talked about already. I feel like a lot of things surrounding the G/S development are actually kind of mysterious, which makes me like it even more. :D So, overall, I'd say it's fairly obscure. If you find any more/new info, I'd be really excited to hear about it. Sadly I don't understand any Japanese, so I can't read those pages. :(

Stared at this for a while, and finally, it hit me. They look an insane amount like the circles around the menu sprite while trading.

Hey I couldn't find a Gen 4 glitch discussion thread and I think it's too minor to make a topic for it, so I'mma post it here. Hope that's alright.

I was too shy to post this before, and as such, forgot about it for a while, but I just remembered a small graphical error that happened to me while I was playing through HeartGold back in like May or something.

When I sent out two Shiny Pokemon in a double battle, the sparkle animation for the second Pokemon had some weird... uh... the only way I can describe it is, like, a transparency issue. You know when someone tries to make an image with soft edges transparent and they do a really bad job of it and it has weird, ugly white edges? That's what happens to the sparkles, from what I can remember. It really weirded me out because when it first happened, I only really saw it out of the corner of my eye because I was doing other things while playing, so I paid more attention the next time I entered a double battle to make sure I wasn't just going crazy and the same thing happened.

Unfortunately, you will have to take my word for this because I don't have any videos or images of it on me. I could RNG up another shiny or two and maybe try doing a double battle with them in the Battle Tower and see if I can get a video/picture of it though.

Actually though, part of me wonders if it was specifically the two Pokemon I was using (Feraligatr in first slot, Ho-Oh in second). Because, man, I can't believe no one's brought this up before. It's really obvious and strange looking.

...Er, well, maybe they have and I've just never seen it.

Ooh, I have a Latias, Sylveon and Purrloin :D

I really want to get one of those cute Jolteons someday, because Jolteon is my favorite Pokemon.
That would make sense. I guess I can't/shouldn't take the inverted color image for super-serious since the palette is just corrupted.

(Also, the colors on the images you provided kind of make it look like a Game Boy sprite. :P)
:S Weird. But the one you found looks a lot different somehow. Could it possibly be a prototype version of it, or are my eyes just playing tricks on me?
I clipped it out of that map to get a better view of it and, after zooming in on it and staring at it because I just couldn't even tell WHAT the heck, my conclusion is that it looks like negative-color May. But I've never seen the May sprite for that particular Frontier map (I didn't even know that map existed) so I wouldn't actually know for certain. I think I'll go look it up now.

EDIT: I can't find it. I can't even find the Brendan Frontier Map sprite. :( Maybe I'm just searching in the wrong places. Either way, it looks like a "coherent" sprite to me. By that I mean it doesn't look like just a trash sprite, even if it does seem to be corrupted palette-wise.
Pokémon Glitch Discussion / Re: Glitch Dreams
« on: December 24, 2014, 02:55:19 am »
The only thing that I know came close to a glitch dream for me was a dream when my Game Boy Advance stayed on even when I turned it off

I've had a couple dreams like that as well. I don't even remember what would have caused them now lol.

They're a little creepy, actually. I think I like it much more when things actually turn off when I turn them off. Probably would have thrown it out the window too. :P
General Discussion / Re: Really bad jokes

Oh god, I think this is my favorite thread. Really bad jokes are my absolute favorite kinds of jokes. The lettuce/tomato one and Spaghetto in particular made me lose it. I also love the Times New Ramen one and Fresh Prints, but I've heard those before. Still funny though.

There is absolutely no snow where I am either and it's kind of disappointing. It's hardly even cold. Like, right now it's 44 degrees (Fahrenheit). Really? The other night it was like 57 too.

December is unusually warm where I live. November and February are the "I'm literally going to die from the cold" months. It likes to drop to like ~16 degrees during those months and then proceed to not even rise past 30 during the day.
Bwah ha ha, that's REALLY good. I too wonder why it just says... "BALLS". I've never before heard that line (or lineS, really) of dialogue but I admittedly didn't dally with much of the original RSE's features. Partially because I never had a link cable, so I couldn't link up with another player very often at all to see dialogue from things like mixing records, etc.

This would probably be too obvious of a thing, but did you name anything in your file "BALLS"?

Also we've sure found a lot of qAF lately. :/
