Pokémon Discussion / Scrapped Pokémon from Gold and Silver
« on: August 27, 2015, 04:13:20 pm »
Apparently there were a few Pokémon that Game Freak showed or otherwise mentioned at Nintendo Space World 1997 but then scrapped. Their names are アクア, アクエリア, アニモン, エレキング, ハネコ, イカリ, ペインター, プクー, サニー, and ヨロイドリ (sources: 1, 2) Some of them are claimed to have appeared in a promotional video for the event. Others seem to be earlier references to Pokémon that eventually shipped.

ホノオグマ and クルス were the Fire-type and Water-type starters, respectively, in the demo, but Cyndaquil and Totodile took their roles by Nintendo Space World 1999. ハッパ instead developed into Chikorita.

I've also found a few other sites talking about early Gold and Silver:

Does anyone know more about this or is this somewhat obscure?

Pokémon Discussion / Unused Celadon City warp in Japanese Generation I
« on: February 19, 2015, 10:24:03 am »
The original thread.

The Gameshark codes 01xxB5D3 01xxB1D3 control which 'warp point' a southern exit will take you in Red/Blue.  If you go to Celadon City and set both codes to 08, you will end up here after entering an exit.

Does this imply there might have been an unused building in Celadon City at some point in the game's development, or is this some kind of weird coincidence?

In all Japanese versions, the addresses are D330 and D334. Thus, to access the unused warp in Celadon City on those games, you must set them to 08 or use GameShark codes 010830D3 and 010834D3.

On an unrelated note, 01xx38CD can be set to 00 to revert the behavior of "walking through walls". I don't know if this was already known since people always mention 010138CD but this is far more practical than disabling the code and entering another map from a warp in order to restore the normal behavior.
Generation I Glitch Discussion / "Naughty" Pikachu (Japanese Yellow)

In English Yellow, Torchickens got the "disco" Pikachu effect using 01xx3DCD (xx=0E). I decided to try the code in Japanese Yellow using the same value and this is what I got.

Emulation & ROM Hacking / Ripping Game Boy music

I'm curious, how should I go about this? I know I can use an emulator to record the audio but that might not be the best way of doing it.
