CryEd: a new Pokémon Crystal cry editor/previewer
« on: October 05, 2018, 08:07:30 am »
So in this thread, I noticed that FroggestSpirit had created a cry editor/previewer a while back. I tried it out and found that it wasn't particularly straightforward to use. I decided it might be a good idea to finally give the cry editor I created a while back a proper release.

Features:
  • Full cry editing ability (FroggestSpirit's editor doesn't let you change the high byte of the length)
  • Ability to import existing Gen1/Gen2 cries
  • Ability to load/save your cries
  • BONUS: You can use the unused cry base! (I assigned it to ID $44, note that you'll have to manually assign the pointers if you want to use this in a ROM hack)
Misc tidbits:
  • This was forked from an earlier project of mine to isolate Pokémon Crystal's sound driver into a blank ASM project.
  • FroggestSpirit's editor is 2 MB, while mine is only 64 KB.

Download link (including source code) is in attachments. Feedback appreciated!

An improvement indeed, for many reasons! Excellent work! I wonder if it might have a place on the site.

This is a fun one. Plenty more to find too.
Someday I've gotta use this for one of my tracks, maybe when I go in an electronic direction again...
