AR Ethics
« on: July 31, 2010, 04:05:15 pm »
I want to ask the forum's opinion on doing a few things with AR to my untouched, greatly worked on Platinum Version (and possibly my less-used SoulSilver.) For competitive battling and possibly the Battle Frontier, I was thinking about getting into RNG to help build better teams. If you don't know what that is, it is pretty much abusing the game's random number generator without hacking in order to obtain better IVs and Shiny Pokémon. However, it requires a secret ID, normally either visible with a flash card or an un-RNG'd shiny. I am currently considering the usage of these codes:
  • Change money to secret ID (would not save afterward, leaving no traces on the game)
  • Rebattle codes (I would still do the actual captures legitimately, leaving the Pokémon itself legitimate)
The downsides to these would be:
  • Loss of the game's "virginity" (never having been touched by AR)
  • Secret ID's actually are visible without AR
  • Rebattled legendaries still have my OT, leaving a bit of a trace
I think the reasons to use them would be:
  • Secret ID finding is generally considered a legitimate use of outside devices
  • Saves money and huge effort on getting a new cartridge (rebattling)
  • If I got someone else to do it, they'd probably be doing the same thing. This way, I would eliminate having to rely on somebody and wasting their time.
Thoughts? I'm leaning towards yes, but I want you guys' input first.

If you make legitimate pokemon and don't cheat for items/money, I think it's fine.
