Game-Breaking Glitches?
« on: September 12, 2007, 08:33:19 pm »
Have you ever had a glitch/GS code that either

A) deleted the save file

or

B) make the game pack itself unplayable?

I'm aware that ZZAZZ can screw your save file sometimes (especially if you save), but what else is there?

Meh, I deleted my save file once on my Red cartiage by entering random GS codes. I was bored...

Use an emulator.

Kind of on hiatus for the next few weeks at least, but I always come back and in the meantime would like to encourage discussion on how the site is organized so as to let visitors find the most useful info (whatever that may be) in a clean and efficient fashion.
I don't have a habit of keeping Discord open, so direct inquiries are still preferred through here.

There are plenty of ways to erase your game. Here's one: any name-modification code that removes the 0x50 at the end of your name is guaranteed to erase your game if you save.

That's how the ZZAZZ glitch can work to do damage. :)

ZZAZZ glitch also causes damage because it turns a lot of the WRAM into 99 99 .. 99 99.
I lost my game even though it had a short name... I think the trainer caused a superglitch. My party couldn't even get seen.
It may be slightly trainer related? I am not sure.

Anyway, get a pokemon with Superglitch. That will ruin your game.

Really? Never happened with me (I used a Ditto and got off-the-wall results like with the ZZAZZ glitch without the namechange, but it never permanently erased or damaged my game...

I has to be exactly a two-character name. A one-character name would still remove the name terminator with those 0x99's.

I was referring to if you try to Save, which I am guessing you did not.

It was a 5 character name. If I do remember correctly:
99 99 ?? 99 99 50
It should have worked.

Anyway, I didn't try and save, I tried to heal my Pokemon. Nurse joy took my pokemon, it went to heal, froze for a second, then went to the charmander of the startup with glitch tiles and the pokemon center music still going. Then I turned my gameboy off, and back on again and there was no Continue.
Fortunately, I could still save, so I started a new savefile. (Which I also lost to the ZZAZZ glitch :P)

Oh yeah, you can also do some pretty nasty stuff if you try to heal after doing the ZZAZZ glitch. The game seems to try to heal 153 pokemon throughout the RAM.

A typo of VRAM, which I think stands for Virtual Random Access Memory.

No, VRAM is where the current image data is held, whereas WRAM (Window Random Access Memory) is where the data on your Pokemon is held, etc (on the GB).

It holds all variable data.
If you open the VBA memory viewer and click on WRAM, you can see all of current data. (and Edit it)

I have a WRAM list (Contains some RAM (C000 to D000)) The WRAM on a GB game starts at D000 and ends at FF00)

Really? Never happened with me (I used a Ditto and got off-the-wall results like with the ZZAZZ glitch without the namechange, but it never permanently erased or damaged my game...
I was referring to if you try to Save, which I am guessing you did not.
I did actually, it was the final rival battle, plus went throuh credits.

Alright, note to self: don't heal at Pokecenter after ZZAZZ...

Hmm...I think maybe that saving after the Pokemon League stablizes things to soem extent. It fixes your Hall of Fame, for example...

Don't quote me on that, though :/
Just open your eyes and see that

life

is

beautiful
