« on: October 28, 2009, 06:13:31 pm »
Is anyone here a member of Mensa?  I'm planning on applying when I turn 14.

Actually, it's for the top 2% in the world.

I want to apply someday.

I think I could be, but I feel like it's too 'I'm better than you.'

Agreed; I might get in, but it overvalues people selected by an arbitrary and flawed test.

I agree with both of you, too.

It just seems so supremist.

Mensa exists so some self-proclaimed smart people could sit in a room and do logic puzzles. I've considered applying, but a Mensa membership would not be worth very much in practice. If I need to be a member of some group just to prove to people that I'm "smart", people already think I am smart because of what I actually do. Being in some club won't increase anyone's opinion of me.

I have an IQ high enough for Mensa, but no way do I ever plan to apply to it.
"Mr. Weed? I can't come to work today. I was in a terrible plane crash. My entire family was killed and I am a vegetable. I'll see you tomorrow!"

"Mr. Toad, how many licks of you does it take to get to the center of a Rhode Island state prison?"
(BAM!)
"JUST ONE."

No, No! Beer bring pain!

I think, therefore I am. I think.

The mayfly lives only one day. AND SOMETIMES, IT RAINS.

"My, my, hey, hey, Rock and roll is here to stay. It's better to burn out, than to fade away, My, my, hey, hey."-Neil Young

"I'm sitting on the corner feeling glad.
Got no money coming in but I can't be sad.
That was the best cup of coffee I ever had.
And I won't worry about a thing because we've got it made,
Here on the inside, outside so far away."

It wouldn't hurt on a resume or college application, though.

Would you know? Maybe it would because of the things said above.
