At the same time I don't want to take the situation too far and stop/disagree with people who do. I don't want them to get in trouble but I don't want to endorse it either.
It's something I've thought about lots of times before, but I'm adamant about stopping emulators for good, just because in England it's a crime/at least potentially a crime even if you dump your own ROMs (Nintendo in the past were/are against this since during the NES days).
I'm getting mixed signals here. The formulation in the second quote sounds really like emulators should be illegal, full stop. If you said it's actually a mistake, however, I would absolutely take your word.

Another reason why emulators are great, programmers who don't have the proper tools such as flash carts to test their games or demos out can rely on accurate emulators to test their games out. (Though you'd have to know which ones properly emulate the hardware you're coding on. It's far from the ideal method of testing, but it may be all the programmer has. I've been there before.)
It's actually more or less the only way to be able to debug one's programming - I'm using BGB and it's all fine and dandy, but if I was unable to, I'd have to either buy Nintendo's official hardware for upwards of $1k + find their official devkit software, which is designed for really old PCs and, ironically for this argument, that I might have to run in DOSBox; it's not impossible, but it'd kill basically all homebrew programming. Having to debug ASM blindly is not a pleasant experience, believe me.

OK. Yeah it is a mistake I feel, I suppose then maybe Nintendo should make an official ROM dumper and/or enable copying but just for the consumer or museum/analysis. It is said by Nintendo unlicensed emulation can't make any sense, but I believe maybe there is a solution. (e.g. if Nintendo sold a ROM dumper for all its old consoles and an emulator with it (and I think they should choose BGB but modify it slightly in my opinion and the debugger and all its original features should be included). The only thing maybe is that the dumped ROM and the emulator work with a security code to avoid playing official Nintendo ROMs from the Internet. (and I believe the ROM otherwise should be exactly the same. This wouldn't stop piracy, I think that's impossible, but may or may not help. You're right that I did have mixed messages but its only that it could encourage people who don't have the game to steal it. I don't know if I believe that something can be preserved forever, but possibly eventually Nintendo and its successors will enter public domain, it may depend on social culture or bankruptcy.

Eh... system was released in '89, dev kits probably went out in '88, maybe '87... old enough to be possible that it could run on Amiga, which'd mean needing an Amiga, too. They coulda been an earlier adopter of IBM's 8088/8086 processors and PC-DOS, but it's more likely to have been an Amiga devkit.

The only thing maybe is that the dumped ROM and the emulator work with a security code to avoid playing official Nintendo ROMs from the Internet.
That's basically DRM, and by essence, DRM can be circumvented.
Also, this basically makes no sense. Nintendo isn't taking care of the games or systems anymore, what reason do they have to keep making money off of them? Once sold, a cartridge isn't their property anymore, and so they should be making money because cartridges are dying one after the other, forcing people to switch to ROMs? Come on, that doesn't make sense.
The correct way to do it is to focus on remaking, because that is a thing worth paying for: fixing up the games' mistakes, updating them to the present day's taste, and so on. I'm against this making money purely off of nostalgia.
Fighting piracy makes sense for games they're actively making money off of, but for games that are basically abandonware, it doesn't.

Speaking of both emulation and obscure old Pokémon-like games (which tend to be well-liked here), I came across this article about a GBC title called Zok Zok Heroes, thanks to a video our former resident SCf3 posted yesterday. A really good read. Has anyone here played it?

Congrats on the new job, by the way, Raven Freak! Sounds like a big step up from retail.

I have it and played the beginning of it, I agree its cool yeah :). I don't complete or sometimes even play the monster battling games, which I colllect but I love to collect them. Monster Traveler and Space-Net, Sanrio Timenet are interesting too, and I love STN (beat it) and Space-Net. Sadly the last time I checked Niconico the SN walkthrough was taken down, but I guess analysing the guidebook to find out what to do next may help. I made it to the port town, and it has interesting lore. The goddess Isis is in it, in an egyptian themed town.

Then there is Network Adventure Bugsite and Dino Device, and those Smilesoft PlayStation (text based?) games, a number of Telefang fans like you know.

Also Koto Battle and Card Hero are great, had the most fun with Koto Battle.

Net de Get Minigame @100 by Mobile21 (possibly dead Nintendo/Konami company) is another quirky minigame compilation like Chee-Chai Alien.

Congrats Raven Freak!

Thank you both! That game looks pretty interesting, since the Full Changer is now emulated, I wonder if there will be a English translation of the game sometime in the future. If that's the case, then I'll check the game out. I couldn't do much now, seeing how I don't know any Japanese whatsoever! So I wouldn't know what was going on. :V

:)

Actually same. I know a little (up to elementary level), but I need tools to try and understand most sentences. I think sometimes you can get by without knowing Japanese with memorization but yeah I relate its hard. :/

Gonna release some feelings. I don't like how in Smash Ultimate you can get banned for inactivity or excessive SDs in non-team battles. What if a relative or friend called you on the phone, or if the postman/woman came, etc? On the other hand, I suppose you are expected to be active all the time.

It's legit to get banned for those, imo, and if what you mentioned occurs only once, then you shouldn't get banned. You would if it got systemic, wouldn't you?

Yeah, it happened twice (SD, inactivity) as I didn't know. Gonna be more careful now though.

The past couple of days have been a bit rough, my feet have been killing me because I'm not used to standing in mainly one spot most of the day. I finally started working in my area at my new job, and it's 10 hour shifts with only 10 minute breaks and a half hour lunch so It's a huge change for me, seeing how I worked at Walmart before and we got 15 minute breaks, with a hour lunch and only 8 hour days. My body just needs to get used to the job is all, I'll gladly take this mundane job where I basically punch out tons of fan grates, working Monday through Thursday over a retail job where I had to work all Holidays and weekends and dealing with rude customers. Plus I'm already making more than I ever did at my previous job, and even make more than what I would if I was to be promoted at my old job, with less responsibilities.

According to Microsoft, I can't play my magazine review copies of Xbox 360 games on the Xbox One because "our backwards compatibility software is unable to handle unfinished code."

Adding to this, I hate this part of online. Sometimes I get an opponent who has a very poor connection, and, rather than play through a large amount of lag, I'd rather just SD three times and find someone else. But nope. I get punished for that. :(

People behind a very bad connection shouldn't play online anyways. It's neither enjoyable for them or for others. It sucks that they have this connection - I'm one of them - but it's not their fault.

Yeah, it's just… oof. Part of my upcoming life situation is why I'm not gonna get online when I get a Switch. I'm not gonna have a good connection.

It's a shame because I'll miss playing against people from across the world, but it's just not worth it. Too much trouble, especially when I'm paying for it.

Besides, even when there's theoretically not any connection issues, there's just something about playing online that seems... less fun. Sorta rage inducing.

I have no idea what it is.
